Ernest Luckman (5 March 1926 – July 1988) was an English professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s and 1950s. He played at club level for the Featherstone Rovers (Heritage № 299), and Wakefield Trinity (Heritage № 566), as a fullback, or centre, i.e. number 1, or 3 or 4.[1][2]

Background[edit]

Ernest Luckman's birth was registered in Pontefract district, West Riding of Yorkshire, England, and he died aged 62 in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England.

Playing career[edit]

County Cup Final appearances[edit]

Ernest Luckman played fullback, in Wakefield Trinity's 17-3 victory over Keighley in the 1951 Yorkshire County Cup Final during the 1951–52 season at Fartown Ground, Huddersfield on Saturday 27 October 1951.[3]

Club career[edit]

Ernest Luckman made his début for the Featherstone Rovers as a centre, i.e. 3 or 4, on Wednesday 1 January 1947, he played 5-matches in the 1946–47 season, and 12-matches in the 1947–48 season, mainly as a fullback, he made his début for Wakefield Trinity during April 1948, he appears to have scored no drop-goals (or field-goals as they are currently known in Australasia), but prior to the 1974–75 season all goals, whether; conversions, penalties, or drop-goals, scored 2-points, consequently prior to this date drop-goals were often not explicitly documented, therefore '0' drop-goals may indicate drop-goals not recorded, rather than no drop-goals scored. In addition, prior to the 1949–50 season, the archaic field-goal was also still a valid means of scoring points.[citation needed]

Genealogical information[edit]

Ernest Luckman's marriage to Elizabeth (née Micklefield) was registered during first ¼ 1956 in Wakefield district.[4]
