Torren Martyn (born 1 January 1990) is an Australian surfer, known for his distinctive surfing style. He has gained recognition for his films and contributions to contemporary surf culture.
When not traveling, Martyn resides in a caravan situated south of Byron Bay, a living arrangement he has maintained since 2016.[1][2]
Unconventional Board Designs[edit]
In recent years, Martyn has become widely associated with twin-fin experimentation. Employing '70s-style templates enhanced with contemporary design upgrades, he surfs waves typically dominated by conventional high-performance thrusters.[2] Martyn states that his move away from the thruster wasn’t intended as an act of defiance against surfing’s mainstream.
Early years[edit]
Martyn was born and raised in Byron and learned to surf at the age of 7 while on a year-long road trip around Australia with his mom and her boyfriend—an experience that he credits with instilling in him a lifelong passion for travel. Upon returning to Byron, Martyn became involved in the local contest scene, dedicating his youth to competitive surfing and improving his tube-riding skills with regular travels to Indonesia.[2][3]
Personal life[edit]
Martyn is in a relationship with Aiyana Powell, whom he met while she was traveling through Australia. Originally from California, Powell shares Martyn's passion for exploration and surfing.
