The Devil in the White City is an unreleased crime thriller miniseries based on the book of the same name by Erik Larson.

Premise[edit]

Takes place during the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893, where Daniel Burnham looked to make his mark by making the Fair a success, and the growing killing spree of serial killer H. H. Holmes.

Production[edit]

The project first began as a film, which in August 2015 Paramount Pictures won the distribution rights for. The film would see Leonardo DiCaprio star as H. H. Holmes, with Martin Scorsese directing from a script by Billy Ray.[1]

The project didn't see any further developments until February 2019, where it was redeveloped into a miniseries at Hulu, to be written by Sam Shaw.[2] In January 2022, it was announced Keanu Reeves had entered negotiations to star as Daniel Burnham, with Todd Field set to direct the first two episodes.[3] Hulu officially greenlit the series in August, with Reeves confirmed to star.[4] On October 7, 2022, it was announced that Reeves left the series.[5] Few days later, it was reported that Field has exited the series.[6] On March 6, 2023, it was announced that Hulu would not move forward with the series.[7]
