Tarlan Rafiee (Persian: طرلان رفیعی) is an Iranian artist, curator, and author[1] known for her international contributions to Iranian modern and contemporary art.

Artistic Career[edit]

Rafiee embarked on her artistic career in 2001[2]  with her participation in a group exhibition in Tehran. Since then, she has exhibited her work in several group exhibitions, as well as solo and duo exhibitions across Iran[3] , Armenia[4], and Dubai[5].

Her notable participations include exhibitions such as "Cars: Accelerating the Modern World" at the Victoria & Albert Museum[6], "Iranian Voices" curated by Venetia Porter at the British Museum[7], and "Solace of Lovers" at the Tyrolean State Museum[8].

Rafiee's artworks are housed in international collections such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art[9] in the USA, the British Museum[10], the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Ducal Palace, Mantua[11] and the Tyrolean State Museum[12].

Curatorial Work and Authorship[edit]

Rafiee initiated her curatorial career with the Calling Project[13]  in 2013, facilitating an exchange exhibition between British and Iranian artists. Since then, she has curated numerous exhibitions in Iran, Dubai[14], Austria[15] and Italy.

Notable among her projects is "Good morning... good night. Cinque artiste e una curatrice dall'Iran" held at the Ducal Palace, Mantua[16][17][18][19], where she served as both curator and author of the accompanying book and exhibited works from renowned Iranian female artists including Parvaneh Etemadi, Farah Ossouli, Nargess Hashemi, and Rozita Sharafjahan.

The same exhibition was invited to take place at the Castello del Monferrato in Casale Monferrato[20].

Another exhibition in her career is "SOLACE OF LOVERS: TROST DER LIEBENDEN"[21] [22] a collaborative effort with Yashar Samimi Mofakham curated for the Tyrolean State Museum[23]. In this exhibitions she presented the historical collection of Albert Joseph Gasteiger of Qajar art as well as Iranian masters including Parviz Tanavoli, Jazeh Tabatabai, Reza Bangiz, Farah Ossouli, Nargess Hashemi, Mazdak Ayari and Khosrow Sinai. Rafiee co-curated the exhibition and co-authored a book under the same title[24].

In 2008 she co-founded Bread & Salt Projects, a curatorial project as well as an extended archive and collection of Iranian Modern and Contemporary art in order to preserve the documents of the Iranian modern and contemporary art. [25][26]
