Tallyn Ridge is a suburban residential community in Frederick County, in the U.S. State of Maryland, located just outside the city of Frederick. Tallyn Ridge was built in the summer of 2017. Consisting of single family homes and townhomes, totaling to 441 residences. Tallyn Ridge as well includes a recreational pool, playground, integrated community greens, and a network of walking trails, providing connectivity to Pinecliff Park.

Prior to land development, the site was comprised of 4 farm lots, recorded in 2009 [1] . Limited sources make it difficult to have a solid conclusion of what these farms were, but based on site plan descriptions, it can be inferred that one of these lots consisted of a farm pond [2]. Currently in lot #2, the remains of a barn and a stone wall still remain, located in the forest area, just outside of the community pool. Site planning of Tallyn Ridge began in 2014, and development of the land began in 2016, making this residential community relatively new, in comparison to other residential areas in Frederick. Home sales started in the summer of 2017. The 2 main home developers in Tallyn Ridge's early years were Miller and Smith, and Drees Homes. In 2019, Miller Smith ended their home building in Tallyn Ridge, selling the remaining lots to Dream Finders Homes.

Geography[edit]

Perched atop a 155-acre ridge, Tallyn Ridge sits in east-central Frederick County, bordered to the west, across the Monocacy River, outside the city of Frederick. The community lies adjacent to Pinecliff Park, and is bordered by Plankstone Creek, a tributary-like stream, connecting with the Monocacy River. Plankstone Creek is a 2.2 mile long stream that flows through Pinecliff Park, and is named after a type of stone quarried close by[3]. The site planning in Tallyn Ridge incorporated environmental site design, stormwater management facilities, stream restoration, and over 41 acres of forest. The community has varying elevations, ranging from 340 to 420 feet above sea level [4]

Pool[edit]

One of the main amenities in the Tallyn Ridge community, is its recreational swimming pool, opened on June 1, 2019 [5]. The community pool also includes a smaller pool, otherwise known as a "kiddie pool", intended for the use of younger children. The main pool has a depth of 5 feet, and has 5 fountain streams near the entrance of the main swimming pool. The community pool area as well includes a poolhouse, intended for recreational purposes. The community pool has played a key role every year since 2018, as a social gathering area for the annual 4th of July Parade. Outside of the pool area behind the smaller pool, lies the remains of a barn and a stone wall-like structure, indicating to some degree that this pool area was part of a farm once.

Traditions[edit]

Starting in 2018, a social event has been hosted every year at Tallyn Ridge in the fall season, called the "Oct-tour-berfest". Games for children are held in common areas, along with crafts, mazes, pumpkin decorating and bouncy-houses. This social event as well hosted home tours of model homes, making the event an incentive for homebuyers to come to the newly developed neighborhood. The "Oct-tour-berfest" event was hosted and funded by the home builder companies in 2018 and 2019. Starting in 2020, the tradition has been continued by local residents, by hosting a similar social event near the beginning of fall, calling it the "Fall-fest".

Another yearly tradition at Tallyn Ridge is the 4th of July Parade. On July 4, 2018, a neighborhood parade was held at Tallyn Ridge, planned and organized by local residents. For the celebration of Independence Day, kids would decorate bikes, scooters, skateboards, etc. with colored materials in correspondence with the colors of the flag of the United States. On the day of the parade, participating residents meet at a chosen location in the neighborhood, and the parade would start at a location chosen in advance, traveling down a prearranged route. Another tradition branching off of the 4th of July Parade was the Firework show. On the night of Independence Day, a firework show would be held in the empty lot areas of the neighborhood, and a vast majority of residents would come to view. Due to construction development of this area, the last major firework show took place in 2021, marking the end of a tradition in Tallyn Ridge.
