Draft:Simians (band)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Simians is an 8-piece folk-rock/folktronica/chamber pop indie band based in San Diego, California. The project was founded by songwriter and former primatologist, Simon Breen. Simians' music is characterized by melodic layers, with lyrics that have been described as "heartfelt,"[1] sung by Lauren Kirby. The ensemble features a roster of bandmates hailing from an eclectic mix of musical backgrounds, who add an orchestral component to the music with an array of instruments like viola, upright bass, flute, trumpet, kaval, xylosynth, baglamas, banjo, accordion, piano, synthesizers, and more. Breen cites Leonard Cohen and Philip Glass as the biggest influences on his songwriting.[2] The band's debut album, "Crises of Willpower," is set to release on May 17, 2024. It was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee and produced by Grammy-nominated producer Ken Coomer.
