Brief History[edit]
With a mission to provide professional training in the areas of competence and specialties of local administration, this Higher Education Institution was established in response to the necessity of making professional training a cornerstone of Cameroonian decentralization and administration.[1] It is tasked with providing training and Applied Research to the management of Regional and Local Authorities (RLAs). Presidential Decree No. 2020-111 of March 02, 2020,[2] officially recognizes the National School of Local Administration (NASLA), as the newest member of the extensive family of public institutions with an administrative and professional focus, with financial autonomy and legal personality.[3]

Located at the foot of the Buea mountain in Cameroon,[7] NASLA is found sandwiched between the administrative structures of the Southwest Region. Bordered to the right by the regional delegation of Public Service and the regional delegation of Secondary Education, it has to its left by the Iya Avenue. [8]
Mission[edit]
Known to be the only institution established by a state to train RLA personnel in Sub-Saharan Africa, NASLA’s top management's vision aligns perfectly with the National Development Strategy 2030 (NDS 30) to establish it as an Institute of Higher Learning for urban professions training, encompassing everything from service administration and living space maintenance to local public policy design. Sharing experiences and knowledge are crucial in this context.[9] The Institution hopes to establish itself as a true center of excellence through its Research and Documentation Center, which would enable it to support local public policy adoption, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation in Cameroon.[10]
