Maphlix Trust Ghana Limited is a leading producer and exporter of fresh vegetables, roots, tubers, and fruits in Ghana. Maphlix sources from its own farms and from a network of smallholder farmers in the Volta Region of Ghana..[1] Maphlix Trust Ghana Limited is the largest vegetable farm in West Africa, according to the Ghanaian Times Newspaper in 2021.[2] Established in 2013, the company's long-term goal is to develop and add value to the remaining food crops that are exported in their raw form. Maphlix Trust Ghana Ltd. has been ranked sixth by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) at the 2020 Ghana Club 100 awards, hosted by the Centre in Accra, moving up from 27th position in the previous year.[3]
ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Felix Kamassah is a Ghanaian farmer and owner of the agribusiness company Maphlix Trust, which supplies vegetables to brands like KFC and Shoprite, as well as to markets in the UK and Dubai. Farming has always been a part of Kamassah's life, but he initially pursued it on the side while working as an economist in Ghana's banking sector. Kamassah learned the culture of farming from his aunt, who was both a nurse and a farmer, and she instilled in him the importance of adopting farming as a lifestyle, according to Howwemadeitinafrica.[4] Dr. Kamassah also serves as the president of the Ghana Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association (Ghana Vegetables).
PRODUCTION
The farm produced 2,077 tonnes of vegetables in 2020, and has since increased its output to 2,825 tonnes in 2021, representing a significant growth of 36% in just one year.[2]
EXPORT PRODUCTS
Maphlix Trust produces and exports a variety of major food crops, including orange-fleshed sweet potatoes (OFSP), fresh vegetables, and fruits such as okra, peppers (chili and green), marrow, Chinese okra (turea), tinder, garden eggs, lettuce, parsley leaves, jute leaves, butternut squash, tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers. In addition, the firm adds value to root and tuber crops like cassava, yams, and potatoes. Maphlix Trust also provides agronomic and technical services to support its smallholder farmers[5]
