Fatoumata Joyce Cissé (born 2005), known professionally as Flowerovlove (stylised lowercase as flowerovlove), is an English singer-songwriter and producer from London. She was recently BBC Radio 1's Future Artist of The Month,[1] was named as one of VEVO's Artists To Watch for 2023,[2] and won Artist To Watch at the 2023 Music Business Worldwide A&R Awards.[3]

Early life[edit]

Cissé was born in the South London Borough of Lambeth to Ivorian parents. She pursued A Levels in English, French, and History.[4] She started writing her own music at the age of six, but decided to pursue music as a career during the COVID-19 pandemic pandemic.[5]

Career[edit]

Cissé released her debut EP, Think Flower in 2021, featuring production and songwriting input from her brother Wilfred Cissé and Isaac Levine. She claimed care for the planet and humanity inspired the EP Think Flower.[4]

In August 2021, Cissé released the low-fi rap single "Malibu", which amassed over 3 million streams. This was followed by the release of singles "Saturday Yawning and "I Love This Song". The latter featured in the launch campaign for Hailey Bieber's skincare line Rhode, and its amitybloc-directed music video received a a nomination for "Best Pop Video – Newcomer" at the 2022 UK Music Video Awards.[6]

In 2022, Cissé released the singles "Will We Ever Get This Right" and "Hannah Montana" before releasing her second EP A Mosh Pit In The Clouds, which included contributions from The Invisible Men, Dan Smith, Wilfred Cisse, and GG. On 14 October 2022, Cissé made her UK live television debut performing the EP's second single "I Gotta I Gotta" on the BBC's Blue Peter.[7]

Cissé has been the face of campaigns for major fashion brands such as Gucci,[8] Pangaia, Swarovski.[9] She has featured in publications such as Notion,[10] Puss Puss Magazine,[11] Mission Statement Magazine[12] and Blanc Magazine.[13]

She walked Paris Fashion Week for the clothing line Xuly Bët.

Artistry[edit]

Cissé grew up in a household with a rotation of Frank Ocean, One Direction, Justin Bieber and ABBA and was initially interested in mainstream pop.[14] She said One Direction's "Best Song Ever" helped her realise the power of music and creative visuals, as "they didn't just release a song, they released a world".[15] As she grew older, she discovered a love for a more independent sound, citing Tame Impala as one of her main influences, as well as The Strokes and Strawberry Guy.[16] What sparked her interest in music was how music, whether it was from Tame Impala, Frank Ocean, or One Direction, made her feel and wanting to create that feeling for others.[17]
