Drakonit (דרקונית in hebrew: female dragon or vicious/tough) is a remote controlled weapon station which is installed on-top of AFV's and is operated from within them, without exposing the operator to enemy fire. The "Drakonit" was developed by the Israeli Elbit systems and is in use in the IDF. it is similar to Rafaels "Katlanit".
The "Drakonit" includes a heavy machine gun operation center, ammunition box, sights/cameras for both day and night use, and a small radar as well for target pinpointing. The entire system is bullet proof. The control of the "Drakonit" is done entirely from a computer within the armored vehicle.
in 2016 the IDF decided to acquire the "Drakonit" and started installing it on the heavy "Achzarit" APC and the military engineering vehicle "Puma", as well as arming it with an M2 Browning which has a 0.5 inch caliber cartridge.
