Founded as the China Performance Managers Association in 1988 under the Ministry of Culture. In 1993, it was renamed the China Performers Association. In 2012, it changed once more, becoming as it is known today: China Association of Performing Arts (CAPA).[1]

As an industry association, it has grown from supporting performance brokers (agents) to 14 branches and professional committees encompassing every aspect of the performance market.[2]
