Yijin Byun(邉以震, 1596~1640) was a Joseon government official. He was born on February 20th, 1596 (29th year of King Seonjo’s reign). Soo Byun (邉洙) is Yijin’s father. He did not have a son, so he was adopted by Yijin, the son of Rak Byun, who is Soo’s younger brother. Yijin Byun is the ninth generation of the Wonju Byun clan, the eighth generation of Jeonseo fraction of the Wonju Byun clan, and the third generation of Cheomji fraction of the Wonju Byun clan.
Life[edit]
• He passed the military service examination in 1620 (the 12th year of King Gwanghaegun's reign of the Joseon Dynasty) and served as Dosa (deputy governor) and Gyeongryeo (lieutenant colonel) of the Provincial Office of the Seonjeongwan (major) during the reign of King Injo of the Joseon Dynasty. He had a high reputation in Gwaksan-gun, Biin-gun, and Ryeongwon-gun, and during the rebellion of Yi Gwal (李适) in 1624 (2nd year of King Injo's reign), he defeated Yi Gwal's army in Ansan, Seoul. He received the Order of King Wonjong and went to be the governor of Kaechon County in 1637 (the 15th year of King Injo’s reign). Yijin is the owner of a lot of property and wealth, a person with outstanding knowledge and talent, a person with a courageous attitude, and excellent moral character who does not abandon his nature for money or power, etc., and demonstrates his abilities and achieves great achievements. He was evaluated as a person who possessed all his personality, virtue, and wisdom.
• In 1638, Yijin was invested with the title of Jeolla Jwasuwu (Jong 3 Pum, military Colonel). Right after, Yijin transferred to Jeonunsa of Kwanseo (a tax-collecting position). On January 25, 1640 (February 16, 1640 the 18th year of king Injo’s reign), Yijin faced enemies at the sea in front of Chilsasn, Yeongam (Songseok-ri, Haeje-myeon, Muan County, South Jeolla Province), and died in the line of duty. After Yijin’s death, the Joseon royal court invested him with the title of a Byungjochamui (Jeong 2 Pum, Minister) and sent Kang, Heungjae of a Yegwan (the office of tradition and education) to hold a memorial service consoling Yijin’s death on behalf of the king. Kyunryekwan refers to the officials in ancient Korea who were responsible for conducting and overseeing ceremonial events and rites. "I respectfully offer my condolences for the passing of Yijin. In memory of them, the clothing, and shoes for their funeral, which were befitting of their status, have been laid to rest. May they rest in peace."

Yijin married a woman of the Jeonju Lee Clan. She was invested with the title of a Sukbuin (Jeong 3 Pum, Dangsanggwan, director or Brigadier General), an official position. Her father was Sukeun, her grandfather was invested with the title of a Jinsa, and her great-grandfather, Chulsoo, was invested with the title of a Hyeongam of the Yeongchun County (currently, secretary or Captain, Jong 6 Pum). Her grandfather on her mother’s side, Choi, Kyungwun of the Gangneung Choi Clan. The spouse died on March 21. Yijin had five sons, Woo, Sik, Hwan, Song, and Jae. Yijin’s tomb was in Hodu Mountain, Yucheon-myeon, Paechon County, Hwanghae-do (currently Yucheon-ri, Yugok-myeon, Yonan County).
