Bloomingdale Court is an open-air shopping center located in Bloomingdale, Illinois. It is currently Bloomingdale's most visited shopping center alongside Stratford Crossing. This power center opened in the late 1980s.[1][2]
History[edit]
After Stratford Square Mall's opening in 1981, Bloomingdale needed extra shopping destinations in the village to prevent overflow. Bloomingdale Court was proposed after the opening of Stratford Square Mall and later started construction. Bloomingdale Court had their grand opening in 1986 even though the mall wasn't even completed. On December 15, 1989, Picture Show (at the time was operated by Cineplex Odeon) had their grand opening with 6-screens. In 1991, Bloomingdale Court finished construction and Chili's opened near the street. The same year Circuit City opened their Bloomingdale location and Walmart had their grand opening. In 1992, Applebee's opened and three years later Lonestar Steakhouse opened. Lonestar Steakhouse closed in 2008 and replaced with Anyway's American Grill. In 1996, Oberweis Dairy opened near the main street.
In 2006, Dick's Sporting Goods opened and became one of the more important anchor stores. In 2009, Linens N Things and Circuit City closed all their locations.[3] Circuit City was replaced with hhgregg in 2011 and Ross Dress For Less opened the same year.[4][5] Chick-Fil-A opened in the former Applebee's in the Summer of 2016. hhgregg closed their Bloomingdale location in 2017 due to bankruptcy and later closed all locations. Every Halloween, the former Circuit City/hhgregg serves as a Spirit Halloween store. In 2020, all OfficeMax locations closed permanently.
In 2021, T.J. Maxx moved from the original Bloomingdale Court location to their brand new Stratford Crossing location. Their location is a mix between HomeGoods and T.J. Maxx.[6] In 2024, Macy's announced they will be moving inside the former T.J Maxx store to try out a new store format.[7] This format will be smaller than the conventional Macy's department stores you find in major regional shopping centers. Macy's originally had a location at Stratford Square Mall when they acquired Marshall Fields but they closed that location in 2017 and opted most employees to their Woodfield Mall location.
