Draft:BND-Rheinhausen field station

The BND Rheinhausen field station (German: BND-Außenstelle Rheinhausen) (formerly known as the Ionosphere Institute[1]) is a specialised field station of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND) that processes signals from international telecommunications networks. It is located in the municipality of Rheinhausen (Emmendingen district) in Breisgau. Similar BND field stations exist in Schöningen and Bad Aibling. The Rheinhausen BND field station mainly records satellite routes as part of Communication Intelligence (COMINT). Of the 28 parabolic antennas, the largest currently have a diameter of 18 metres.
