On October 21, 2018, 59-year-old French businesswoman Nelly Erin-Cambervelle was arrested by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Qeshm Island, Iran on charges of "entering the country illegally", "allegedly signing an illegal mining contract" and "illegally buying gold".[1][2]
She was arrested and detained for four months, ultimately being released in February 2019.
Arrest and release[edit]
On October 21, 2018,[3] Erin-Cambervelle was arrested in Iran, on charges of "entering the country illegally",[4] "allegedly signing an illegal mining contract"[5] and "illegally buying gold"[6] by Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps] (IRGC) in Qeshm Island. The Iranian authorities demanded 40,000 euros ($45,392) for her release.[7]
On February 2019, according by IRNA news agency quoted the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Bahram Ghasemi said she was released after nearly four months.[4][8]
Reactions[edit]
In response to a question about this issue, the French foreign minister said: "A French woman has been detained in Iran since October, that he is trying to improve the country's situation."[1][3]
