Andre de Staercke was a Belgian representative in NATO between the years 1949 to 1976. He was born on October 11, 1913 in Ghent and passed away December 27, 2001. He was educated in Brussels through the University of Namur and in Paris through the former University of Paris in the Paris Law Faculty. His career really blossomed when he started as the Belgian representative for the North Atlantic Council of Deputies in London from the creation(1949) to 1952. Eventually he became the permanent representative for Belgium in NATO, April 1952. After much hard work for his country, he earned the title Dean of the Council in 1957, he would hold this position until his retirement in 1972. He was also the only NATO representative to have served in London, Paris, and Brussels.
