1. The unit was raised on 01 Sep 1962 under Lt Col HS Kochar. Class comp of the Regt is ‘Veer Ahirs’ under the patronage of Lord Krishna himself. Veer Ahirs got blooded in war in the 1965 and 1971 war. The Regt phyically entered into Pak territory (Malakpur) and fired 3264 rds during 1971 WAR. The Regt was anointed ‘VEER AHIR’ for its brave actions during 1971 war.

2. Veer Ahirs dug out a gun under an avlanche at an alt of 17,200 feet and prepared a new gun position at Sehjra (Siachen), which earned us the title of ‘SHER AHIR’ given by the, then DG Arty Lt Gen Ramesh Khosla, VSM. The Regt has served in all types of weathers & terrains icluding Northern,Eastern and Western Front.For its efficacious tenure in North East, the unit was awarded GOC-in-C, Eastern Command Unit Citation on 24 Feb 18.

3. As part of conventional and CI role along the LC occupying five gun As and five Company Operating Bases. We also occupied five OPs and one surveillance det along the LC at stag three altitude. The unit coordinated the only high altitude integrated firing rangeg in Northern Command, with conduct of multiple trials to its credit. The Regt also managed the strategic Zojila pass to keep the lines of communication to Eastern Ladakh. For the stupendous work and indomitable spirit, the Regt was honored with the GOC-in-C, Northern Command Unit Appreciation on 07 Feb 23. Unit is proud for ‘No Op Casualties’, while being deployed along the LC.

 63 Medium Regt owns a piece of history, whereby we conceptualised & executed the task of “Renaming of Pt 5140 to Gun Hill” from scratch. DG Arty appreciated the herculean effort associated with the ‘Silent yet Loud Gunners’
