The 2038 FIFA World Cup will be the 26th FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of FIFA.
FIFA restricted the hosting eligibility to North America or Oceania after it made the decision to host the 2030 World Cup on three continents (Africa, Europe and South America) and for Saudi Arabia to host the 2034 World Cup.
Host selection[edit]
The bidding to host the 2038 FIFA World Cup has yet to start. Only countries from both North America and Oceania are eligible to host this World Cup as Europe, Africa, South America will host 2030 and Asia will host 2034.
Bids[edit]
Confirmed bids[edit]
Russia[edit]
On 18 February 2024, Russia was announced to be a confirmed bid. Russia has most recently hosted the 2018 World Cup. There are many questions to be asked about this due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Cambodia[edit]
On 25 March 2024, Cambodia has plans to apply to host the 2038 World Cup.
- Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan
Abandoned bids[edit]
Ghana[edit]
The bidding process had yet to begin, besides this, on 7 July 2023, Ghana announced their plans to bid for the 2038 World Cup. This bid later had to be abandoned though, due to FIFA announcing that Morocco would be joint-hosts of the 2030 World Cup on 4 October 2023, this meant that Ghana could not host 2038 as one continent can’t host a World Cup twice in 3 consecutive editions.
