Suggesting that the categorisation of English case law needs tidying up. It is variously split between English case law and United Kingdom case law (appropriate for pan-UK cases like Donoghue v Stevenson, but not for ostensibly English cases like Foss v Harbottle). There are also sub-categories by subject (English contract case law) and court (High Court cases, House of Lords cases), and a further unrelated sub-division (Landmark cases). Some rationalisation is needed. My own view is that the number of cases is still small enough that all English cases should be lumped into a single category: "English case law". Agreed - I would propose reorganising all the English case law into one single article entitled "Leading Cases in English Law" or something similar. A similar article has been created in respect of Scots law: List of leading Scottish legal cases and is divided up usefully by subject matter (rather than year). This would entail the amalgamation of the lists: "List of Supreme Court of Judicature Cases", "contract case law", "tort case law", "corporations (!) case law", "High Court of England and Wales" and "House of Lords cases". The "leading cases" list would comprise the case titles together with the year in which judgment was handed down, but not the citation - this unnecessarily clutters up the page. If anyone is still interested in developing the English Case Law please let me know. I would like to start adding cases on a regular basis. This are likely to be fairly special interest to start with. I work in housing law and would be starting off with cases concerning this area. I would hope that I could encourage other people to get involved and report a wider variety of cases. I agree with the earlier suggestions that the categorisation needs to be sorted out if further additions aren't going to be messy. I am very new to Wikipedia and not too sure how to go about setting the categories. Rather than delay starting off until the structure has been prefected I would propose to start posting some cases and see what anyone out there thinks. Does that sound alright? --Wflack (talk) 19:38, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
