Most manufacturers make both petrol and diesel engines so I am thinking of deleting Category:Diesel engines by maker and Category:Petrol engines by maker and moving the contents to Category:Engines by maker. Please discuss. Biscuittin (talk) 14:01, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • oppose This is pointless - even if there is little gained by distinguishing, there is nothing achieved by merging.
Secondly, many manufacturers do indeed specialise in one or the other. Not all piston engines are going into domestic cars, where the makers do have a large overlap. Andy Dingley (talk) 16:05, 21 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merge?[edit]

Should Category:Engines by maker be merged with Category:Engine manufacturers? Biscuittin (talk) 14:17, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • No One contains engines, one contains businesses.
There is though some confusion about Engines by maker/maunfacturer/brand across WP and Commons. I think Commons has some vague precedents in place for one or the other. Andy Dingley (talk) 14:41, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'll leave it alone. Do you have any views on my diesel/petrol engine proposal (above)? Biscuittin (talk) 15:38, 21 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
