Proposed merger[edit]

I propose that Category:English conscientious objectors (which contains only one article) be merged into this category (or, alternately, all the English people in this category be moved into Category:English conscientious objectors. DH85868993 (talk) 11:42, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When I began a month or two ago investigating Wikipedia's coverage of British conscientious objectors I found that, apart from a category identified as such, there were some British COs separately listed as English COs, and yet more listed as COs unclassified. There were more, again, unassigned to any CO category. Since legislation regarding COs has never differentiated between England, Wales or Scotland, although it has differentiated between Britain and Ireland, and there have been a number of COs with clear links to more than one part of Britain, there seems little point in attempting to separate out exclusively "English" COs. I have, therefore, carefully collated all known British COs in Wikipedia in that clear category (including the one mentioned above), in the hope that the erstwhile English COs category (? postulated by an English nationalist), can be deleted, and the pre-existing confusion thereby permanently avoided.
