Blaydon and Consett is a proposed constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament.[1] Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, it will first be contested at the next general election.[2]
Boundaries[edit]
The constituency will cross the boundary of the ceremonial counties of Durham and Tyne and Wear and will be composed of the following (as they existed on 1 December 2020):
- The County of Durham electoral divisions of: Benfieldside; Burnopfield and Dipton; Consett North; Consett South; Delves Lane; Leadgate and Medomsley.
- The Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead wards of: Blaydon; Chopwell and Rowlands Gill; Crawcrook and Greenside; Ryton, Crookhill and Stella; Winlaton and High Spen.[3]
It will comprise approximately half the electorate of each of the current (to be abolished) constituencies of Blaydon and North West Durham[4] and will include the following communities:
- Blaydon, Rowlands Gill, and Ryton from the Borough of Gateshead in Tyne and Wear
- Consett, Leadgate, and Burnopfield from County Durham
