Alcea heldreichii, or Heldreich's hollyhock,[2] is a tall hollyhock plant native to SW Europe and Turkey.

Description[edit]

A medium-sized (to 0.8 m) hollyhock, narrow-stemmed (10 mm), with dense star-like (stellate) hairs, distinctive for its small leaves (to 6 cm) shallowly or not deeply lobed, moderate pink or white flowers (petals narrowish to 40 x 15 mm, white in Turkey) on short (2-5 mm) stalks, inflorescence often dense toward the end. Found at roadsides, rocky slopes, steppe, open areas of forest, in Turkey 150-2000 m.

Epicalyx small (<50% calyx), fruit segments winged, shallowly furrowed, stellate-pilose hairy on dorsal and lateral sides.

Distinguished from A. biennis by the narrower stems, short flower stalks, short epicalyx and generally smaller less rugged-topped leaves.[3][4][5][6]

Distribution[edit]

Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Ukraine, Yugoslavia.[1]
