New US National Park Userboxes
Hi folks! I am making some userboxes for having visited US National Parks, and wanted to know what page within the Gallery I should place them. Is there a section already that I haven't found, or should I make a new section on an existing page? The ones I have done are near the bottom of User:Oldbeeg/userboxes. (I am planning to make more.) Thanks, Old Beeg ··warble·· 11:24, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- That is a good question! I would suggest either adding them as a new section on Wikipedia:Userboxes/Interests N to S or starting a new page like Wikipedia:Userboxes/Parks. - Ahunt (talk) 16:23, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
I will start a Wikipedia:Userboxes/Parks page with selected area sections set up. Best, Old Beeg ··warble·· 16:03, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- That sounds good. I'll watch out for it and give it a look over when you are done! You can use an existing page as a template if you like, too. - Ahunt (talk) 16:05, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- It is ready and live. Should I look for userboxes to move to it, or will that happen over time? Best, Old Beeg ··warble·· 16:53, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- By the way, I added "Parks" under "Interests" in the WP:UBS template. Old Beeg ··warble·· 16:56, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- I also added it to Wikipedia:Userboxes/Gallery! Some people may move existing user boxes or not, but it would probably be better if you go and look for any and move them yourself. - Ahunt (talk) 17:19, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
I'll do that. Thanks, Ahunt, for all your guidance and help! Best, Old Beeg ··warble·· 17:32, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Userboxes/Food
This page needs help. If you click edit for the whole page, you get: "Warning: Template include size is too large. Some templates will not be included." If I was sure what to do, I'd try. I see there are some sections apparently duplicated and lots of sections at the bottom don't display the userboxes, only the template name. I will divide the page if that's what's needed, just need some direction. Best, Old Beeg ··warble·· 12:20, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah, same old problem! There are too many userboxes on the page. The software limits the number of transclusions and so the only solution is to split some content off into a new page. - Ahunt (talk) 16:04, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- What is the relationship between User:UBX/Userboxes/Food, Wikipedia:Userboxes/Food and Wikipedia:Userboxes/Food/Sandbox? There appears to be a lot of overlap among them. Best, Old Beeg ··warble·· 22:33, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Same old same... I'll see if I can trim the page out again tomorrow night like I did a couple times before. Maybe it's time to consider breaking the whole page into "libraries" & having a link on the main ubx page to all the groups at the top of the page and a section below for a random featured group to give new people am idea and often have "new" stuff to see to encourage creativity? Another idea is to convert the userbox template into a module. Either way, I'll start trimming, breaking out and merging sections tomorrow night to fix the error... — {{U|Technical 13}} (e • t • c) 22:46, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- I was thinking that a new subpage called /Food/Eating would work with the Eating, Restaurant, and International Cuisine sections being moved to it from the /Food page. I am, however, not familiar with the whys-and-wherefores of the pages I listed above and was wondering about them so I would know how to proceed and not stomp on work already done. Best, Old Beeg ··warble·· 23:16, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
Set up Wikipedia:Userboxes/Food/Eating. Still trying to figure how to list it in Category:WikiProject Userboxes template. Best, Old Beeg ··warble·· 13:12, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
- OK, finally have the WikiProject Userboxes template worked out. Best, Old Beeg ··warble·· 14:26, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
Deleting a user box you created
I am wondering how one would get a user box that they created deleted. What are the steps and procedures? --Devin Murphy (talk) 03:56, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
- You just need to tag it as per WP:G7 and it will be deleted. If you do that please make sure that any transclusions to it are also removed. - Ahunt (talk) 10:53, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks Ahunt. --Devin Murphy (talk) 12:03, 26 July 2014 (UTC)
Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
