Notability?[edit]
Hey guys, I was just checking out the Illini train route in Illinois, and I have to ask: is this really notable? I mean, who outside of Illinois cares about a pair of trains that shuttle college kids back and forth from Carbondale to Chicago? I understand articles on Amtrak and major train stations, but are articles about individual trains and small routes necessary? Are we going to have a Wikiproject about every individual bus in the United States? Tractorkingsfan 13:40, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

- This question is also being asked regarding Illinois Zephyr and the new Carl Sandburg - likely due to your Illini query. I understand the comment, but it also insulting (just for college kids from Chicago?) -- having lived in downstate (west-central) Illinois for 20 years -- with its unique transportation issues. I could argue the politics of the 1971 Illinois Service establishment is unique in US politics (references are available). Additionally, why are California and Norteast Corridor exempt from this same judgement? Beatgr 20:49, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
New articles[edit]
Since there are still so many articles left to write on passenger trains (like the red links in Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway#Passenger train service, for example), would it be helpful to start a section on the task force page to list new passenger train articles? I started one this week on the Twin Cities Zephyr and I've got more information to add to it, but I thought we might want to have a local announcement location so other task forcers can help with any additional resources they may have. Request for general LIRR rolling stock information[edit]
I am going to be expanding Long Island Rail Road in the next week, since I just received Steel Rails to the Sunrise through interlibrary loan. I'm generally not a fan of rolling stock, so it would be great if someone else could write a summary of the LIRR's rolling stock, including its history, with citations (or see if I can find citations from the book) to help bring the article to featured status. Is Wikipedia a resource for education and carrying FACTS or a tool for American propaganda? Standard Format[edit]
I've been poking at the Lone Star (Amtrak) for a while now and finally came here to see if there is some standard way of editing articles regarding named trains. Specifically, I'm trying to come up with an elegant way to handle the fact that the Texas Chief lasted into Amtrak days right up until the AT&SF pulled the plug on their Chief trademark ... and then continued as the Lone Star.
I'm starting to relieve the article of the non-Amtrak stuff and I've included the Amtrak Texas Chief info, so now I need to start a stub for the "other" Texas Chief. What is the best title for that? Texas Chief? Texas Chief (AT&SF)? Texas Chief (Santa Fe)?

- Over on the List of North American named passenger trains (C), there are three trains listed as Cannon Ball (passenger train). I was going to recommend redirecting this to Montauk Branch but that would make the Boston & Maine and Norfolk & Western railroads part of the redirect, when that only belongs on the Long Island Rail Road. ----DanTD (talk) 15:55, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Need help with Comet (passenger car)[edit]
On the off chance that this Project and task force are not actually dead ...
Anyone know anything about the Comet series of passenger cars? The article is quite a jumble. I peck at it occasionally and have made a little progress, but I don't know a whole lot about the cars themselves? (besides, you know, what I've read on Wikipedia) I think some of the history is either missing or just plain wrong, but don't know enough about the cars themselves. --plaws (talk) 19:21, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

- I've probably got a few items in my reference library, but as most of the books I've got cover Western US operations, I can't think of something definitive off the top of my head. I've got a couple years of Railpace magazine that might have some information, but I don't have an index to it yet (and my whole magazine collection could do with a bit of a reorg to make things easier to find). A quick scan in the MR index finds nothing for "Comet" and returns only one relevant hit for "Horizon": "MR Workshop: Amtrak passenger cars - Amfleet/Horizon" in the February 2000 Model Railroader. - Actually, there are two articles on models of the Horizon cars. The second is "AEM7 locomotive and Horizon passenger cars: O scale" in the February 2000 Railroad Model Craftsman. I haven't seen any listings for further information on the prototype yet. Slambo (Speak) 20:09, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Added Texas Special[edit]
I've added an article about the Texas Special. It lacks pictures because the only pictures I can find are models for sale on ebay. I hope to be getting some images and additional information and hopefully some images from The Katy Railroad Historical Society soon. Queensland Australia Long Distance trains[edit]

Problem with the Template:TrainsWikiProject task force switch[edit]
I have just notified the talk page at Template talk:TrainsWikiProject about a problem with the switch which places articles into task-force categories, specifically I found a problem when following the instruction on the present task force page. I suspect this may mean that a number of articles which presently has Passenger=yes instead of passenger=yes (lower case 'p') will be conjoined properly to this task force once the fix which I have requested gets implemented. __meco (talk) 11:24, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- lower case p should be used, else the article will not wind up in Category:Passenger trains task force articles and the task force will not be viewable via the {{WikiProject Trains}} template (note that the name of the template has been changed (although redirects do not necessitate any switch). A similar problem plagued the
|streetcars=yesparameter too. Note that some parameters use upper or mixed case as proper nouns or abbreviations (e.g.|UK=yes). In the absence of a bot to assist in switch articles I've found that using Talk: prefix searches along with a case sensitive search in my web browser (to overcome the case insensitivity of wikipedia search) can help spot articles that need adjustment. US trains with different names in different directions?[edit]
When I realized that the Santa Fe's Chicagoan originated in OKC for part of its life, I got interested. Thing is, its counterpart was named the Kansas Cityan ... I figure I need to rename the article to include both names. What is the best way to do that? Redirects for each name afterward, of course, but what name? --plaws (talk) 21:48, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
Big changes coming to SEPTA Regional Rail; help needed with many updates[edit]
On July 25, 2010, SEPTA is doing away with all the "R" numbers for the Regional Rail lines, and splitting them into two lines naming them after their destinations on each branch. For example, R6 (SEPTA) will become the Manayunk/Norristown Line and the Cynwyd Line. This means that each of the 7 Regional Rail line articles will need to be split, disambiguated, and the {{s-line}} templates will need to be updated. This will require a lot of work and I am willing to do it with some help. For more information, see this article. Pacific Surfliner is yellow?[edit]

City of Memphis (train) - Need help with updating[edit]
I've started updating this article which does not seem to have seen major work since mid-2008. If anyone has a copy of this book Streamlined Passenger Trains of the United States & Canada by Alan L. Pettet can they have a look at the article to make sure that the original author has not simply copied straight from it (Publication details such as the publisher, year of publication and ISBN are also needed).

"City of ...." article linkages[edit]
I recently got into a bit of a tussle over whether City of Los Angeles should redirect to City of Los Angeles (train) or to Los Angeles itself. Having straightened that out we now have a superfluous City of Los Angeles (disambiguation) page and a hatnote about "City of" pointing directly to the train. I'm thinking that we should do the same thing for the remainder of these given the rather roundabout linkage from "City of X" to "City of X (train)". Mangoe (talk) 19:15, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

ATSF Super Chief not a Streamliner?[edit]
