Hello. I'm writing to inform the members of this project that I have moved the article List of Saskatchewan-related topics to Wikipedia:WikiProject Saskatchewan/List of Saskatchewan-related topics per discussion here. -- Black Falcon (Talk) 21:04, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Does that look any good? Just edit the page and copy the wikicode if you like it. (there's also a userbox at User:Royalguard11/userboxes/riderfan) -Royalguard11(Talk·Review Me!) 22:52, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Spot On! thanks SniperSarge 00:58, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

The article right now just has the standard bio infobox, but I'm pretty sure there's something more specific that we could use (there's like a hundred persons infoboxes). If anyone can find a more specific one, that would be great (it must have been featured a while ago, before infoboxes were a definite requirement for passing). -Royalguard11(Talk·Review Me!) 03:43, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I am not a very active Wikipedian, but I try to make a contribution when I can. I was wondering if there would be interest in some of the Saskatchewan Wpians getting together some time in the near future. I suggest the Craik Eco-Centre at noon for lunch on Saturday, June 23. Compromise Regina Neighbourhoods

I have posted a compromise to the issues in the Talk:Regina Neighbourhoods. It is my hope that this will lead to a solution over the disputed figures and edits. I also hope that this will eliminate future accusations as to my identity and/or relation to other banned users. I would appreciate that you read over the compromise and comment on it. I just want to find a solution, that will satisfy all parties.--207.81.56.49 07:28, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Request for Comment: 207.81.56.49

I apologise for the long-winded message, but I ask fellow editors to look closely at this request. Please comment on the the following Anonymous IP:

This anon. IP has been trying to re-insert misrepresentative and non-relevant statistics into the North-central section of the article Regina neighbourhoods. There was also quite a hullabaloo a couple of months back over the same statistics that was perpetrated by the editor Mayor Quimby and his or her anon. IP sockpuppets:

Mayor Quimby and socks engaged in unprecedented edit-warring, personal attacks, vandalism, and just plain hostility and ill-will. The disturbances caused by Mayor Quimby ended when the troll was indefinitely blocked from Wikipedia for making legal threats against Ryulong and others who got caught up in the disruptions.

If one looks at the edit history and diffs of the articles Regina neighbourhoods and Pat Fiacco one can see where the recent trouble begins with the anon. IP. 207.81.56.49. I ask editors to also look closely at the pattern of edits and the personal attack messages related to North-central Regina and the very same statistics that were deposited by Mayor Quimby and series of other anon. IPs that originated from Saskatoon several months ago. The same stuff can be found in the diffs of Regina, Saskatchewan. Now, please note that the recent disruptions caused by 207.81.56.49 come from Victoria, B.C.! I think that there is a connection between the incidents from a couple of months back and most recently. Simply put, based on the great similarities between edits and the single-minded attention to a personal crusade to 'expose' North-central Regina, I propose that 207.81.56.49 is actually Mayor Quimby and has moved, temporarily or otherwise, from Saskatoon to Victoria, B.C.

The anon. IP has been blocked for 24 hours, but this block is almost up. The anon. IP will be back very soon. I had some correspondence with which this anon. IP took offence, but since I have some experience with the user I would ask editors to not needlessly provoke as the anon IP appears to carry a grudge (please check the vandalism in the history and diffs on my talk page!). Please also note that I and other editors honestly attempted to debate collegially with and entreat Mayor Quimby and his/her sockpuppets on a number of article edit-related issues a few months back (see Talk:Regina neighbourhoods, Talk:Regina, Saskatchewan). In response we were met with nothing but the exact same hostility, malfeasance, and illogical reasoning as from 207.81.56.49! I ask all concerned editors to specifically comment on the following:

1) Based on the same patterns of edit warring etc named above, do you agree with my hypothesis that 207.81.56.49 may in fact be Mayor Quimby?

2) This occurs on multiple articles. Besides this, what can we do, if anything, to prevent such abusive behaviour and malfeasance? For example, is there enough evidence to report the Anon. IP as a sockpuppet of Mayor Quimby?

Please respond on this talk page. Thank you. Mumun 無文 15:29, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Comments regarding 207.81.56.49

  • I think it's possible, but it is difficult to say at this point given how little editing has been done. --Kmsiever 02:47, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Isn't that a little presumptive and circumstantial. Are you attempting to silence any and all discussion that is counter to your POV ?--207.81.56.49 03:49, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
  • UPDATE: This issue was discussed by administrators on WP:AN/I over the weekend. Two administrators, including one with direct experience in the original disruptions, compared the edits and agreed with the hypothesis that I present above. Mumun 無文 11:54, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
  • UPDATE 2: The above user confirmed as a sockpuppet of Mayor Quimby. Here is the investigation result. The Mayor was notified that s/he was indef. blocked as Mayor Quimby and is thus not permitted to edit Wikipedia under any user name or IP address (see here). Mumun 無文 16:42, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

The subject of the article is the SAS. However, there is another unrelated section in the same article called 'Saskatchewan archaeological sites'. The SAS is an organisation composed of people interested in archaeology. 'Saskatchewan archaeological sites' is a list of sites that show evidence of the presence of humans in history and prehistory. As such these are two completely different topics. At Talk:SAS I have proposed that 'Saskatchewan archaeological sites' be spun off from the SAS article and given its own article space as a list. Please help us to find the best course of action on the article talk page. Mumun 無文 17:26, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Pat Fiacco needs work

The format and presentation of the article as a time-line is inappropriate for a biography article. The article contains highly POV statements. I just wanted to let everyone know that I've moved Delta Bessborough to that location from the awkwardly sounding and rarely used Hotel Bessborough. The Election

The Saskatchewan general election, 2007 is now on, so as Wikipedians we need to be prudent in enforcing traditional guidlines (especially WP:NPOV, WP:RS and WP:V). It doesn't matter what side we're all on for the election, we need to all make sure that articles are accurate and especially neutral. Larger election usually have enough people looking after articles to make sure they're fair, but we're only a small group here. Especially the last week of the election there will probably be a jump in the edits based on political promises, adverts and other things. So let's make sure we don't have anything about who will probably be the next premier, cabinet, ect. Let's make sure that we've got accurate information (if you looked at Calvert lately...). So, let's make this a good first election for this wikiproject to handle. -Royalguard11(T·R!) 03:20, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Brad Wall

There's an edit war taking place on Brad Wall's article, which obviously needs to be resolved fairly quickly since he might very well become your Premier-elect about four days from now. Project Pages

This is probably a poor title for this section, but I was just wondering if the Saskatchewan project banner gets added to notable people from Saskatchewan? Hello there a SK banner would be much appreciated on these pages, as biographies get rather lost then from the project, where they are notable, and can also be added to the placename pages whence they are started in their notable persons sections. I popped into Curtis Joseph which you had created, and nested the banners there, if you want to copy and paste the idea to your other talk pages. Thank you very much for your query.SriMesh | talk 02:12, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Robots and Assessment

In the November newsletter the manner of assessment for Wikiproject Sk is introduced whether ratings should be done on the Canada WP banner or if ratings should be incorporated into SK, and then, perhaps a robot can be requested to assist the project with banner placements. Does anyone also have an opinion on this? SriMesh | talk 02:12, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

I think a robot would be good. I noticed that most of the pages I had put the Sask banner on carried a message that said to change it to the Canada WP banner. It would be easier if someone had a bot do most of this work, as there must be 1000s of Sask WP Banners to change. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 06:38, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Rural municipalities

The official name of rural municipalities is definitely "<name> No. <number>"; however, what is the common name (used in media, vernacular, etc.) for them? Is it just "<name>" or the name and number? TIA. (For those wondering, the result of this answer will essentially determine how the RM are displayed on Saskatchewan provincial highway articles.) --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 16:35, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

I don't think there's a real agreed upon common name, but "RM of <name>" looks common enough. Sometimes you do see the whole "RM of <name> # <number>" though too (I just did a couple quick google searches, and those seem to be the two used most). -Royalguard11(T·R!) 17:51, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
So, for instance on Saskatchewan Highway 1, the name alone would work for the portion of the infobox where the rural municipalities are listed (prefaced with "Rural municipalities:")? --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 19:35, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, I'd say that you could just put the name. The "box" is for RM's, so just the names should do (like <name>, <name> ect). -Royalguard11(T·R!) 01:09, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Saskatchewan

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! We could use a couple more people watching Saskatoon for a while as an anon editor seems to want to show the city in a bad light while ignoring NPOV, WP:RS (linking to a non-RS blog, also using Google Maps which I'd say is about 3 years out of date for Saskatoon), and adding claims with random reference that don't mention what they say. Also seems to have something against the metropolitan population and seems to want to yell out that the housing market has crashed here, and spinkled random facts about Saskatchewan that should be in that article. -Royalguard11(T) 04:38, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

I would like to get some discussion going on the Saskatoon talk page regarding this section. I've noted what I feel are problems with this section and made a couple of suggestions at Talk:Saskatoon#Economy_section but I would really like to have a discussion on that page before I (or anyone else) do something major. I started the thread over a week ago and I've had no response so I thought I would leave this note here were a few more eyes may wander. Thanks. Wolfrock (talk) 23:06, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

History Bio articles about Sask

I keep coming across articles about people in Saskatchewan history that I have never heard of like James Hamilton Ross. Having lived in Saskatoon for nearly 30 years ending 26 years ago, I am surprised about how wrong I was that Saskatchewan's history was too recent to bother about. I lived here in Qualicum Beach for years before I discovered that a fellow important in the history of this town made his fortune in Saskatchewan. Perhaps that is a manifestation of the oft repeated line that there are more people in BC from Saskatchewan than there are people in Saskatchewan. Anyone interested in adding articles about people significant in Saskatchewan history probably already know about the 3 volume work of John Hawke "The story of Saskatchewan and its people" Wikipedia would be well served well if the Saskatchewan project developed a list of people who should be added and categories that help readers find articles about them. --KenWalker | Talk 20:35, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

Good point another good source is Pioneers and Prominent People of Saskatchewan. There have been several folks who have gone on elsewhere to become well known, as well as those who have remained. It is good to see this information grow, and for documents to make it into the public domain about some of these folk. Kind Regards SriMesh | talk 00:28, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Saskatchewan articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Saskatchewan articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Outdated highways article needs redistribution

For those who are maintaining the highways articles, I just found this article - Provincial roads in northern Saskatchewan - which was created back in 2007 but which as become outmoded. The article was an attempt at creating a catch-all for the 900-series northern provincial highways, but only 3 were ultimately profiled. Meanwhile, individual articles have been created for all the other 900 roads, no matter how minor. Except the links on the Saskatchewan Highways Template go to this outdated article as redirects for those 3 roads (those working on the individual articles may not have noticed the omission of 3 highways since there would have been no redlinks to signify they were missing). On the talk page I have recommended the article be deleted and the information on the 3 900-series highways be spun off into their own articles to be consistent with how the other roads are being treated. 68.146.80.110 (talk) 02:46, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

We've created an event page on English Wikipedia (please translate!) and I hope you'll find the inspiration to participate. These events can take place off wiki, like edit-a-thons, or on wiki, such as themes and translations. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. Washing my hands of Saskatoon-related articles

After seeing a lot of hard work deleted by various tin gods, I will no longer contribute to any articles related to Saskatoon. Check my history and you'll see I've done a lot. No more. I was an admin here for a number of years and I stopped editing under my user name in protest over how some tin gods have taken over the place. Sad to say it's gotten even worse. Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Province of Saskatchewan Locator Map used in infoboxes

I started a conversation on the help desk regarding the map of Saskatchewan under the title Error in maps and therefore in the GPS coordinates. The map titled File:Canada_Saskatchewan_location_map.svg does not look my province of Saskatchewan. There should be curvilinear lines north and south. The eastern and western borders albeit are parallel lines, however they are in no way parallel to each other. I see the map NordNordWest used as a template File:Canada_Saskatchewan_relief_location_map.jpg, but it is not a good one at all. The boundaries for Saskatchewan have never changed, I think the cartograher who made File:Canada_Saskatchewan_relief_location_map.jpg took a short cut and made it rectangular with square corners in error. This one MapSK.JPG shows the not parallel east west boundaries and the curved north south borders the best, but it should be oriented more north and south and not off on a diagonal. This also shows the borders well. Saskatchewan Municipalities.png, or this one SK-Canada-province.png. I have contacted user_talk:NordNordWest, the creator of the SVG locater map who seems to have good map making skills BTW I know they have to be rather particular to work with the GPS robot. WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

New 10,000 Challenge for Canada

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge is up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2200 article improvements and creations. If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Canada like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1300 articles in 3 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile! WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   07:54, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

A new newsletter directory is out!

A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Rural municipality edit warring against consensus

Hello all, we have an IP-hopping editor that is warring at numerous rural municipality (county-equivalent) articles and lists, particularly at List of municipal districts in Alberta and List of rural municipalities in Saskatchewan, renaming the municipalities contrary to the consensus here for Alberta and the extrapolated approach of that consensus here for Saskatchewan. The IP editor finally reached out to me on my talk page here. Following my response, the editor evidently didn't like it and reverted me yet again with this edit with a strange and unfounded accusation. Would interested members of this WikiProject please watchlist List of municipal districts in Alberta and List of rural municipalities in Saskatchewan? I'm about to revert again and apply a level three warning on the editor's talk page. Cheers, Hwy43 (talk) 05:26, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.
