Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. The first theatre and actors in Romania

Should we change "ş" to "ș" in article titles?

Many Romanian article titles in the English Wikipedia use the "ş" character, but "ș" is the correct Romanian letter. Shouldn't these titles be changed to use the correct character? I already changed Timișoara, but I'm unsure whether this is right thing to do. Is there any reason for using the incorrect character? (This looks like a big job, but better now than later, when it will be even worse.) --Robert.Allen (talk) 08:28, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Oh, please don't. The argument was made a long time ago in favor of frequency and proper display over the strict rule (which is barely ever respected in Romania). This has been the consensus for years, here and on the Romanian wikipedia. Plus, on my display at least, the "correct correct" variant looks awful - it's like something scribbled by someone with palsy in the middle of typeset.
And, finally, eve if were we start using the letter, it should not be just in article titles, but throughout, in every case and every random combination where it and ţ (not ț) were used - which is not something we can reasonably expect will actually happen. Dahn (talk) 08:36, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Romanian Ministries

In the last 20 years the names and structure of Romania's government ministries changed with every new cabinet. Is there any established way to keep WP up date, yet not remove important info when changes like joining tourism and regional development occur (i.e. every 2-4 years)?Anonimu (talk) 16:07, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Trying not to encourage the political pamphlet that seems to be in the making inside any more or less serious post, let me note that there is indeed a problem of nomenclature. If it were after me (and, alas, it ain't), I would simply reduce the name to the smallest single denominator - "of Tourism", "of [National] Defense", "of Education", "of whatnot", discussing all "full names" and name changes in the body of articles instead of spinning the articles around every time the gvt gets creative. Given that there's a couple of users who seem to be interested only in preserving that decorum, this is bound to be a controversial proposal, but at least give it some thought.
And oh: whatever you do to the names and how they impact on the articles, this is, by all accounts, grotesque. Dahn (talk) 16:19, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
Please AGF. What to de do with that specific case, should it be "of Tourism", or "of Regional Development"? Personally I think the first has a longer tradition, while the second is much more important in the government scheme, so I wouldn't know to choose that "single denominator".Anonimu (talk) 16:51, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
Well, my thought would be keep "Tourism" and forget "Regional Development" - mention the merger in the article. That;s because the latter is (still) accidental, whereas the former has, as you say, a longer tradition. In other words, Udrea is the first-ever minister of both, let's see if this becomes a "tradition" before changing it. Of course, links for "Minister of Tourism", "Ministry of Tourism" etc. should all point to that one single page, and the nomenclature within the article should point toward the current situation. But keep the title simple and on "Tourism". At least for now. Dahn (talk) 17:02, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

I raised this type of issue on the Justice Ministry talk page (IIRC), but the repeated renamings and mergers make it too byzantine for me to propose a general solution... By the way, do we have articles on each cabinet? I saw one on Croitoru's rejected one. Are there others? It may be best to just give the full names of the ministries in an article on each cabinet, since the ministry articles are pretty wimpy, and likely to stay that way (except for list of ministers I've not seen much else in them). I personally think that the very idea of having separate articles on cabinets (as opposed to, say, a list of ministers in articles on the PMs) only creates clutter and gives some users something simple to spend their energy on. The articles are virtually impossible to link to, and, in case somebody ever planned them as prose, they would be redundant and perennial POV traps. But that's just me. Merging noticeboard here

I'm proposing to merge/move the archives of Wikipedia:Romanian Wikipedians' notice board and it's talk page here. Both worked as rather fragmented discussion areas. To the uninitiated outside this WikiProject, it wasn't/isn't at all apparent where to go. Those papge have also been inactive for a year, so I've marked them such a while back. A single archive search box would be nice too, it that looks more complicated than the WT:MATH one because the built-in search doesn't appear to handle multiple prefixes. Since I see you're good with wikicode, could you make a template of sort to invite people from the old Noticeboard here (i.e. to put on their talk pages).
