Adding an entry for Kennet Partners[edit]

I'd like to submit a draft entry for Kennet Partners, a firm I'm affiliated with. Kennet is a growth capital investment firm active in Europe and the US. A number of our peers, co-investors and competitors have Wikipedia entries.

The link to a draft page is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Yacout/Sandbox#Kennet_Partners

I have tried to respect the formatting guidelines and templates, but please forgive any errors.

Resources?[edit]

Thanks for inviting me to join the task force. Am I the third member?

Annual reports and analyst reports on some key firms are hard to find. What are the best sources of information for writing articles? Can you recommend a book or two that I can request on inter-library loan?

Creating PE firms[edit]

I am looking at the template proposed to create a new entry for a new PE firm but I am a bit confused (or lack experience) on how to take them and put them into a new page. Is there an example I can refer to? I looked at the Carlyle, Alpinvest pages but the entire format is different... So is there a page I can cut and paste the format of to create new entries...thanks for any guidance. from Tliaudet (talk) 08:48, 18 June 2008 (UTC)Tliaudet[reply]

HELP!!![edit]

I've tried to create Vestar Capital Partners again, but the template has some sort of problem. Please help before it is deleted again.JakeH07 (talk) 01:44, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Categorization of private equity firms[edit]

Category:Private equity firms now has 130 articles. Although there are many larger categories, this number arguably makes it hard to find articles or groups of similar articles.

I have proposed that firms be subcategorized by country - that is by country of headquarters, as indicated in List of private equity firms. The subcat would obviously remain in the Private equity firms category. This would be similar to the way other international businesses are categorised in WP - e.g. banks, insurance companies, law firms. Against this it is argued that PE firms are too international and subcategories would not be helpful.

I think the test question is: can x firm be said to be a US firm or a UK firm (or a firm from another country)?

Any views? Mhockey (talk) 18:06, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As discussed already, I completely disagree. In addition to Category:Private equity firms of the United Kingdom You have already created:
Your primary agenda appears to be categorizing UK related items and as it applies to PE, to start subcategorizing PE articles is not productive in my judgment.
And in response the question is not can you subcategorize something but should you. In fact there is an entire page (WP:Overcategorization) for peple who think that everything that can be categorized should be. The question is how best to organize the articles. The articles are already divided by investment type between venture firms and more buyout focused articles. If there were hundreds of firms then it might be a reasonable argument to try to break down the list further. However, at that point I would argue that the geographic focus (i.e., US, Europe, Asia, LatAm) is far more important than the country where a firm is headquarterd. I think for now the existing categorization is more than enough. And given that many "UK" firms are either pan-European or global in investment focus, I think this is better left as is. |► ϋrbanяenewaℓTALK ◄| 19:15, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think there are a few red herrings here:

1. I have no agenda to categorize UK related items. I have an agenda to try and improve WP on matters where I have some knowledge.

2. I am happy to discuss each of the other categories I have set up, but the reasons are all different.

And so on - but those issues are better discussed elsewhere.

3. WP:Overcategorization is mostly about placing articles in too many categories. It does tell us to avoid subcategorizing subjects by geographical boundary if that boundary does not have any relevant bearing on the subjects' other characteristics - if you are arguing that. I dislike overcategorization and I'm trying to reduce it. To take examples you have cited: many UK investment management companies were in both Category:Investment management companies and Category: Financial services companies of the United Kingdom. I substituted for both Category:Investment management companies of the United Kingdom. The UK REITs were in Category:Real estate investment trusts and Category:Property companies of the United Kingdom. Again I substituted one category for two.

The thing to focus on is that categories are a finding aid. Categories and subcategories are there to help the user find articles. If you are saying that no-one is likely to be looking for PE firms of the UK, or that "PE firms of the UK" is a meaningless concept, fair enough.

But you and I have aired our views enough. It would be good to get the views of others.Mhockey (talk) 21:18, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To Do list[edit]

I see that this project has a large list of "Articles to create". What criteria has been used to select these candidates? Has thought been given to the general criteria for inclusion? Remember that Wikipedia should not be a directory of every Private Equity firm in existence.

I blanked your Template by accident and it Might not be my fault[edit]

Hello,

The invitation template on my Talk page is not the Substitute one as it should be, I think. So, when I edited it by blanking it; it wiped out the original; I suppose.--Wikipietime (talk) 03:01, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Vision Capital[edit]

I am Julia van Tuyll and I work at Vision Capital. I am reaching out to this group for some advice on the creation of a dedicated Vision Capital Wikipedia page. There is already reference to Vision Capital on Wikipedia in context of our ownership of a number of portfolio companies. We think it would be very useful for Wikipedia users to be able to trace the owners of these portfolio companies, but despite our efforts to create a link from these mentions to our page, we have struggled to get any traction. I would be very grateful if you could consider working with us to create a page or give us advice on how we may move forward.

To give you some context, there are currently 26 companies within Vision Capital’s portfolio across Europe and the Americas. In total over 10,000 people are employed by companies owned by Vision. Vision Capital has raised seven funds totalling over EURO1.9bn. It currently has EURO1.7bn in AUM. JHAVTVS 10:38, 19 December 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by JHAVTVS (talkcontribs)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal[edit]

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Changes to HarbourVest Partners, LLC[edit]

Hi Everyone - My name is Eric Stone, and I work in marketing at HarbourVest. Below I've added a list of proposed changes, along with reference materials. Please let me know if you have any questions - I'm happy to help any way way that I can. Thanks for your hard work! -Eric

HarbourVest manages investments in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa. - Small nit, but HarbourVest has access to a diverse range of high-quality investment opportunities in the U.S., Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and emerging markets. This distinction is important because our funds are often named specifically for these regions. For example, HarbourVest International Private Equity Partners VI - Asia Pacific Fund (HIPEP VI-Asia Pacific), HarbourVest International Private Equity Partners VI - Emerging Markets Fund (HIPEP VI-Emerging Markets), etc. - [1]

HarbourVest has offices in Boston, London, Hong Kong, Beijing, Tokyo, and Bogata. [2], [3], [4]

HarbourVest has over 80 investment professionals, but nearly 300 total employees. [5], [6], [7]

HarbourVest has over $35bn in assets under management. [8]

There is a higher quality version of our logo here: http://pevc.dowjones.com/Article/DownloadAttachedFile?accessno=DJFLBO0020131125e9bpgv6vf&reference=probj%3Aarchive%2FDPJORH2013112500001%2F88%2F122528&mimetype=image%2Fjpeg&imagetype=dispix&stil=en&etoken=S00UErQ2czu4TFyMTZyMTMpMTanODMuMtmm5FVF2bEoYtfrNFFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFB

I can provide a lot more information with sources if it would help, including most items on the HarbourVest todo list. Let me know how I can help. Thanks again!

Harbourvest (talk) 16:06, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • For the logo image, you should feel free to keep the logo up-to-date directly as a non-controversial edit allowed by WP:COI. The same goes for information in the infobox, which has a parameter for assets under management and number of employees. Regarding the first items, we generally shouldn't include a list of office locations or markets served. In most cases they read like "we sell stuff to everybody". I will trim the list now. WikiProject X is live![edit]

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Merge into Finance project?[edit]

Should this project be just simply merged into the finance project?

Wikipedia:WikiProject_Finance is the merge target referred to by the anon proposer. I have no opinion myself. UnitedStatesian (talk) 02:51, 10 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Merger:As of recently Project Investment is merging with Project Finance.Id say this project should do the same. Cheers! WikiEditCrunch (talk) 15:06, 17 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely support a Merge, though I'm wondering how much work would be involved, given how the project layouts are a bit different. Looks like our "requests" section (the To Be Created and To Be Expanded listing) is better organized than theirs, which gives me some pause. Also wondering if we'd need to re-tag PE articles so that the Article Alerts are effectively merged and we don't orphan any entries. Pegnawl (talk) 16:24, 1 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Kohlberg Kravis Roberts[edit]

Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, an article that you or your project may be interested in, has been nominated for an individual good article reassessment. NCORP[edit]

People working in this area should be aware of the current WP:NCORP guideline, which has recently become considerably more restrictive about which sources are considered usable to show notability. It is possible that some frequently used source in this area will no longer be considered acceptable for this purpose. I added a statement to that effect to the notability section of the project page. Formal guideline of course have variable strengths depending on how they are interpreted and used, but it is my personal observation that in recent months the standard seems widely accepted at AfD. A new newsletter directory is out![edit]

A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Wind Point Partners update assistance[edit]

Hello. I have a conflict of interest with the PE firm Wind Point Partners based in Chicago which is why I am reaching out to this group. I noticed that the page is no longer current and the numbers appear to be about a decade old. Would you be able to assist in bringing the page current? I appreciate your help, thank you! MadNutt207 (talk) 15:42, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have proposed some important corrections to the history of the historically pivotal private equity firm Warburg Pincus The proposal can be found here: Talk:Warburg Pincus#Request Edit August 2020 I hoped someone in this group might be interested in reviewing the proposals -- as I have a conflict as someone with a personal relationship to a company co-founder. (But I am unpaid and have no professional relationship to the subject.) Thank you! Fvogelstein (talk) 19:57, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have proposed a better-sourced and more up-to-date draft to replace the current page at Talk:Foundation Capital. I have a disclosed COI. Since it is a private equity company, I thought editors here may have an interest and would be more familiar with the standards/norms for private equity pages than a random editor from the Request Edit queue. Thanks in advance to anyone that takes the time to review and consider the proposed draft. Sangatfoundationcap (talk) 20:51, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Weigh in on Deletion Discussion for Hemant Taneja?[edit]

Hi all - I've been working on the article for Hemant Taneja, a healthtech entrepreneur and GP at General Catalyst. The article has been nominated for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Hemant_Taneja_(2nd_nomination), but not many editors have weighed in, despite the discussion being live for more than a week.

Would anyone here be willing to take a look at the discussion and weigh in, especially on questions of notability/WP:BLP? We haven't had many contributors to the discussion on either side, and I'd welcome input (or even just suggestions on how to improve the article) from folks that are more experienced with this space.

Also, please let me know if this is improper. I'm relatively new here, so I'm not sure what the standard is. WisePraline (talk) 14:34, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Francisco Partners[edit]

Hello, WikiProject Private Equity. I have an outstanding update I requested on the Francisco Partners Talk page. At the bottom of the ongoing discussion, you will see I am hoping editors can update the amount of committed capital Francisco Partners has raised, as well as its offices. Is there a volunteer who is willing to incorporate these changes into the live article for me? I will not make my own updates to the page as I respect the rules in place for my conflict of interest as an employee of Francisco Partners. Thanks for any consideration. Talk subpage[edit]

Hello, WikiProject,

I was just wondering if y'all knew that Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Private Equity/to do existed. I'm working through a list of Talk subpages and came across it. It was last edited in 2009 so I'm wondering if it would still be of any use to this WikiProject. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 22:20, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: I noticed this same thing on a talk page for an article and thought it was for the article itself. Now I'm realizing this is a generic To-Do list that seems to be showing up on other article talk pages. I don't really have an answer for you because I am just starting to explore Wikiprojects, but my guess is that if it hasn't been edited since 2009, it's probbaly no longer useful and seems to just add confusion (from my personal experience) on article talk pages. Review of article content[edit]

Hello, based on the activity on this talk page (ie. lack of responses), I'm not too optimistic here but here I go. I've been reviewing pages with flags and suggesting cleanup edits to resolve the issues. One of the pages is Sofinnova which is a part of this Wikiproject. There is a discussion on the talk page (Talk:Sofinnova) and I have suggested changes to the page. I believe the article needs to be reviewed and the changes be implemented an outside editor to clean up the issues on the page. If anyone is here and willing, I'd appreciate any extra set of eyes. User script to detect unreliable sources[edit]

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Project-independent quality assessments[edit]

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present.
