Just wondering ...[edit]

Please could someone give a heads-up on why these templates are such a good idea? I ask because it comes at a cost of making the "What links here" function pretty well useless. For example, this afternoon I wanted to know what links to Bovini and got a surprisingly large list that includes, just for one example, Hippopotamidae. Why, oh why, says I. The answer is simply that Hippopotamidae uses Template:Artiodactyla and thus links to every extant artiodactyl (from species up), whether it has any interesting connection with the hippopotamidae or not. In this way, any substantive links to Bovini are drowned by links from articles that say "I'm one too". The Hippopotamidae article refers to Category:Even-toed ungulates. Why is this not enough? Why does it need links to every extant Artiodactyl species? --Stfg (talk) 19:06, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that one. --Stfg (talk) 20:37, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
