Just a suggestion but the importance of an actual clan could be judged in part by the tile of a chief i.e at the highest level a Duke and at the lowest level a Laird. Although that is not the only criteria when considering importance, perhaps their actions and involvement in the history is in fact more important:

- I think the importance tag is just so we can easily see what articles are the most crucial to the project. How a chief is styled or whether he/she has a higher rank than another chief has almost no bearing on a clan inside the project. A real easy example is Clan Primrose - chief Earl of Rosebery - it had 105 & 118 hits in January & February, but Clan Douglas which doesn't even have a chief had 2019 & 1803 hits in the same months.
- I think for the most part, the most famous clans in popular culture, and the most influential clans in history are the most important because they'll be the ones with the most wiki-links to them; and they'll be the clan articles that will be read the most.
