Pan-Pacific Park worked well last year and I see no reason not to do the same this year. If anyone has a better idea, please let us know now. Chris Troutman (talk) 20:21, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

SoCal Wikimedians usergroup?[edit]

One possible idea for the LA Wiknic is talk about starting a Wikimedia usergroup for volunteers in your area, maybe loosely defined as "SoCal Wikimedians" focused on LA and neighboring urban areas. You just need two or three volunteers to come forward, and to simply sign an agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation making use of trademarks and grants for outreach events easier. Similar efforts are underway at New England Wikimedians and Cascadia Wikimedians, and I could help you start a page at meta for your group as well. (I'm with the Wikimedia NYC chapter, and there is a Wikimedia DC chapter as well - but becoming a "chapter" is a later stage, and is about incorporating as a nonprofit.)--Pharos (talk) 12:23, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

And then you can get your own wiki. --Rschen7754 17:49, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be happy to take the lead (or help) with this process as a general matter! Calliopejen1 (talk) 18:14, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I just started meta:Southern California Wikimedians -- if anyone wants to help build out that page, it would be great! Calliopejen1 (talk) 18:21, 2 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And if you'd like to do something positive post-Wiknic, please sign up at meta:Southern California Wikimedians#Supporters!--Pharos (talk) 13:18, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
