Pages affected[edit]

@ProcrastinatingReader: According to Category:Pages with lower-case short description, this may affect up to 22,825 pages, and not ~10,000 as my queries suggested. ― Qwerfjkltalk 22:17, 29 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine, since we're still talking about a significant minority of all short descriptions. If the number were a magnitude of 10 greater I'd be more concerned. ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 22:57, 29 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed a few templates that were causing articles without local SDs to be put into the "lower-case" category. Because template changes sometimes take days or weeks (or longer) to propagate to articles, there may be a few articles in the category that do not actually have lower-case short descriptions. Those articles just need a null edit to drop out of the category. In other words, 22K may be an overcount.
As the bot runs through the category, I will take a look at what it leaves behind to see if there are more templates that are inserting lower-case short descriptions. It will be helpful if the bot traverses the category in alphabetical order. – Jonesey95 (talk) 02:13, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Jonesey95: When I run the bot from the category, it will be in alphabetical order, but sometimes it's easier to run it from User:Qwerfjkl/lcSD, which may skip a few articles (though it'll still be in alphabetical order).
Also, if you look at the bot's contributions, quite a few of the short descriptions are obviously vandalism or badly written. I don't bother to stop the bot for these, except for false positives, but if you want you could go through and check.
Finally, you might want to occasionally check the whitelist at User:Qwerfjkl (bot)/code/6 - I'll update it whenever I find new words. ― Qwerfjkltalk 09:04, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
