This course explores topics, questions, and debates in relation to how power relations impact the history and implementation of medical constructs and labels, even shaping (and being shaped by) notions of Gender and Race. We explore, thus, some of the origins of medicalization as a form of oppression as well as some of the origins of health inequities. Students contribute to articles that touch on topics that we address.

- Assignment - Evaluate Wikipedia
If possible, it makes sense for your group to review the same article, if you've already selected which one you'll be working on. This exercise you can go through solo, just make sure you communicate your thoughts with your partner/s. You may use the COLLABORATION googledocs on Canvas for ease of connection and communication to get the ball rolling.
PLEASE NOTE THAT the Wiki Edu exercise will direct you to a "form" to complete your evaluation exercise in. This is how you'll ultimately complete the exercise.
Here are some sample articles students from previous semesters of this class have worked on -- check these out both to get an idea of what it is you might choose to do, but also to evaluate them, if you like. Also, a few times I've had students revisit articles that were edited in previous semesters and the result has always been good so just bc it's been touched before by students in a previous version of this class does NOT preclude you from also working on it. ALSO on a few occasions students have created an entirely new article. This is an option just a bit more work -- worthwhile if you feel strongly about it!

Please go to "timeline" in the Wiki Edu and complete exercises from Week 6 if you have not done so. Then, review the health topics rules in Week 7 ahead of class, ideally!
By the end of this week, I'll try and make sure each group has selected their target article so that we can assign these in the Wiki Edu Dashboard.

Plan of Action: make sure it's clear on your group's googledoc (A) what your target article is, and (B) what your thoughts are so far as to what your proposed edits to your page are going to consist of: are you adding sections? If so, what are they and where might they fit in the overall "table of contents"? What "content gaps" do your proposed edits address? Are you revising and rewriting aspects of the page in other ways? Who will be working on what?
Network of Pages: create a part of your googledoc where you will drop links of related wikipedia pages --- this is pages that you might want to link to your page, for example; or pages you might want to link yours *to* -- so, related content and/or categories.

We'll take a little time in class on Wednesday for you and your groupmates to review the Canva/infographics assignment and make your work plan/design plan so that you can be ready by Monday!

Everyone will do short presentations on their wiki projects on the last day of class, and these will include your Infographics!
We have a neat setting in the dashboard that allows us to view and track contributions that we can use to highlight your contributions.
- Assignment - Continue improving your article
Now's the time to revisit your text and refine your work. You may do more research and find missing information; rewrite the lead section to represent all major points; reorganize the text to communicate the information better; or add images and other media.
NOTE that media and images bit is optional in part because the requirements for images and media are quite stringent.

It's the final week to develop your article.
- Read Editing Wikipedia page 15 to review a final check-list before completing your assignment.

Guidelines will be up on canvas. This essay is your opportunity to lay out your process and reflect on the project. Much of the work that goes into Wiki contributions can appear invisible (like code!) and I know you've all worked hard and thought hard, so this is your opportunity to create a record of this, and to adequately value your efforts. Also, since about one more week will have elapsed, it will be an opportunity to note any changes to your work or your page, and reflect on those, as well.
