I'll make the shields, but you shouldn't be using them in templates like that, makes them way too big. --Holderca1 talk 14:32, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Minnesota Highway 371 - Business

I've been doing some work on Minnesota Highway 371 creating an intersection list, and I noticed that it doesn't seem like there has been a shield for Minnesota Highway 371 - Business made.

MN 371-Business is the old route MN 371 into Brainerd and remains as part of the state trunk highway system, therefore a shield probably should be made for it.

A page hasn't yet been made for 371-Business (I'll probably get at least a stub put up soon), but it will be as follows: Minnesota_State_Highway_371_Business

As for what the shield looks like, it uses a different color scheme than the regular Minnesota Highway shields, this link has pictures that show some of them up close:

Complete --Ltljltlj (talk) 15:01, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for the new shield! I was made aware that business routes aren't supposed to get separate articles, but this new image is perfect for the section on the Business Highway in the Minnesota State Highway 371 article and for the major intersections table I had created. Stearns County, Minnesota

Now that I got Inkscape and the Roadgeek fonts installed, I decided I can best make shields that I wanted, therefore I deleted my previous request.

Random Florida County Road shields

Here's a short list of shield request for random articles and lists related to County Roads in Florida.

These are just the ones I know of that need them for now. ----DanTD 21:11, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

One more; Gilchrist County Road 313, for County Road 313 (Gilchrist County, Florida). ----DanTD 21:14, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Accept --Holderca1 talk 21:51, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for working on it. I just remembered another one; Marion CR 335, for County Road 335 (Levy County, Florida). I really should add it to the Marion CR list too. ----DanTD (talk) 04:50, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Complete I think I got them all, let me know if I missed one. --Holderca1 talk 16:17, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

I believe you got them all. I suppose I'm going to have to work on more Florida County Route lists after this. ----DanTD (talk) 18:13, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

What about these shields?

Shields we need I remeber asking it earlier:

--Freewayguy--Comm 90 20:54, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Don't make duplicate requests and be patient. Some have waited for months for shields on this page; your request has barely been active for two weeks. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 21:07, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Why can't you use Image:US_DOT_FHWA_MUTCD_SHS_2004_3-1_M1-1_750x600mm_678_NY.svg to make it yourself? —Scott5114 21:27, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

They go in infobox and infobox has to use I-# (NY).svg for all routes --Freewayguy--Comm 90 23:45, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Either make the darn shields yourself, or be patient. --Rschen7754 (T C) 00:29, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Uh, yeah, you use the shield I linked to as a template to create the new shields you want. Takes all of about a minute for each shield. —Scott5114 01:29, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
You can also override the shield parameter in {{infobox road}} by putting something in the shield parameter. --Holderca1 talk 13:36, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

What's wrong with ? It's not like any signs are posted, so there's nothing to match. --NE2 11:21, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Complete Anyway, the shields are made and it took longer to argue than it would have to make the shields. It took 2 months to get 3 shields which take 5 minutes to make!! Carpetmaster101 03:40, 16 December 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Carpetmaster101 (talkcontribs)

Bike Route Shields

I have created many articles about bicycle routes recently and would like to request some new shields. I would like a shield similar to Image:US_Bike_13_Alternate.svg for Delaware Bicycle Route 1. I would also like to request shields for the BicyclePA Routes:A, E, G, J, L, S, V, Y, and Z. Here is a link to a page that has pictures of what the BicyclePA Route Shields look like [1]. Alaska sheilds

Not that they should ever be used... not a single one of those is present on an Alaska roadway. Although it's nice to know they're there. —Rob (talk) 02:09, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
No doubt.  — master sonT - C 01:47, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Okay, I'm starting my list of requests for shields within the Exit List of Interstate 25 in New Mexico, and they're all for New Mexico State Routes:

  • 320, 157, 140, 546, 187, 152, 195, 181, 408, and 500.

That's my limit of 10. I'll seek more when the others are done. ----DanTD (talk) 03:22, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

FL shields

I think we should have these FL shields. They can be used in history section just not 25x20 px icons or main display of infobox--Freewayguy (Meet) 23:17, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Do you have a reliable source (DOT standards for example) that say FL uses state specific Interstate Shields? If not, we cannot provide them.  — master sonT - C 01:48, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

I mean to use it on articel body only to replace this. Its okay for diamond shield there, just not okay for infobox or 25x20px icons. --Freewayguy (Meet) 22:43, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Is this request accepted? Or it is not active for a while, if so just write accept even if is not active for 3 weeks. I'm confused if you just leave it. It can be used in article body just not any routebox or 25x20px icons. --Freewayguy (Meet) 17:12, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

There's absolutely no reason to replace that image with an SVG shield. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 22:19, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
What's a diamond shield? —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 18:51, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Now there is still alot of FL state shield, and ther post out like summer 2006. That because they do not comply to the DOT standard. We dont need to know how old the shield is Why does this matter? Maryland and Georgia is also doing this same thing. The 2000 DOT code told them to use nuetral sheilds. Some post last year still have state names. --Freewayguy (Meet) 21:09, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

So what? That doesn't mean we have to include them on our articles.  — master sonT - C 22:18, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Never mind-dont need it-just delete this pic from article. That's it. I think FL post out at least 5 state shields last year, I don't know what style they use instead of their proper format. Those shields is caught automatic error. Gerorgia promise to not post any more state shield after 1999 but after June 2006 they post out like at least 5 to 10 more state shields. I don't know why would they do that and those is just foul shields.--Freewayguy (Meet) 01:49, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

No, I did do I-59, you may have to purge the page to see them. Actually, I've only been doing this for a week or so; I only recently got Inkscape to work on these, I guess I just learned really quickly. Thanks for the kind words! Mr. Matté (talk) 19:57, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

South Carolina Road shields

I've been working on the list of SC number highways and have found several SC Highways without shields. Here is what I have so far; 65, 67, 97, 102, 103, 107, 109, 118, 125, 165. Here is an example of the kind I'm talking about, Many thanks, Rocketmaniac (talk) 02:01, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Accepted, now Complete Mr. Matté (talk) 02:32, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
Awesome!!! thanks. I might have some more in a few days. Later, Rocketmaniac (talk) 02:53, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

I have found some more that are missing when someone is able to get to it. Same series of shields. Numbers 1, 184, 185, 200, 247, 260, 303, 333, 421 and 512. Thanks, Rocketmaniac (talk) 13:45, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

I'm going to accept, but I'll just try and go ahead and do all the missing shields from the List of SC Highways page. Mr. Matté (talk) 14:03, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
And now they should be done. Mr. Matté (talk) 14:31, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. There might a couple more needed, but that is 99% of them. There are a couple of US highways listed in the SC section that might need a shield when I change them over to the state type. You've done great work. Rocketmaniac (talk) 14:34, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

It should be noted that SCDOT has introduced a new shield design that will be used for all new/replacement signage, as shown here. There was a SCDOT release about it, but I can't remember the location. In any event, I have an SVG template for the new signage ready to go, but I don't know if we want to give the new signage a new file name or overwrite the old signs. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 20:04, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

I propose keeping the old style where it is and create new style shields at Image:South Carolina X.svg. --Holderca1 talk 21:30, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
I agree with that name.--Ltljltlj (talk) 21:32, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
OK, it's been uploaded as Image:South Carolina X.svg. It probably needs more refinement, but it's a good start. Here's what's tripping me up: the SCDOT release says that the shade of blue on the signs is the same as the shade on their Interstate Highway shields; however, the blue used on the sample SC shield pic and on the real-life pics seem to be much lighter than the MUTCD standard blue. I don't know what to make of that unless (1) the sample SC pic is wrong and the picture colors are off or (2) SC uses a much lighter blue for Interstate Highway shields. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 00:45, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

More NM shields

I hated to bring this up, but I'm requesting some more shields for New Mexico State Routes 250, 460, 501, 502, and 503. These are mostly for completion lists, although some are for the articles on roads that are covered by them. I've got to work on more states too. ----DanTD (talk) 21:39, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

I guess it's another accept for me! Mr. Matté (talk) 22:35, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
And it's done. Mr. Matté (talk) 22:43, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
I don't see any difference. Keep in mind, I'm not on the same PC that I was on before, so you can't say I didn't clean my cache this time. ----DanTD (talk) 19:14, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Did you try purging the page? (aka, putting "?action=purge" at the end of the page's URL) —Mr. Matté (Talk/Contrib) 20:10, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, and it took me to "Wikipedia does not have an article with this exact name," and it never let me back. ----DanTD (talk) 23:09, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
It wasn't working for me either. I went and purged the pages for NM 501 and 502, and [2]. They seem to be showing up now. 25or6to4 (talk) 01:14, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

More South Carolina Road shields

Hello again, I've found a bunch more shields that are needed for SC. The first 10 are, 21, 25, 26, 29, 52, 54, 62, 69, 70, 71. Thanks again, Rocketmaniac (talk) 14:38, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Done with all of them on the List of SC Routes page. —Mr. Matté (Talk/Contrib) 16:29, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

NM signs

Since some NM signs were just created, I would like to request a couple more to complete the adjoining Texas articles. Needed are #'s 128, 176, 132, 114, and 421. Thanks. 25or6to4 (talk) 01:34, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Done! —Mr. Matté (Talk/Contrib) 11:30, 30 January 2008 (UTC) (P.S., don't forget to purge the page!)

NJ's missing shields

New Jersey's missing a ton of shields if someone can make them. They are: 445S, 11N, 25AD, S41A, S41N, S44A, S100, S101, 700N and 700P. I'm not sure how well someone can fit 4 digits on a circle shield, but thanks. Mitch32contribs 22:33, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

All of those shields except for S100 and S101 are listed in the elongated shield category with the format: Image:Elongated circle 444S.svg. I'll accept on the other two though and put them in the elongated shield group. —Mr. Matté (Talk/Contrib) 23:49, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

National Park Service Route 615 in Wallpack, NJ

This shows of a National Park Service Route 615, a continuation of County Route 615 in Sussex County, NJ. I could use a shield for the linked article, since I am expanding that.Mitch32contribs 21:02, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

This is a start; since I'm not good with determining licensing, I don't know if this could be uploaded as a .svg. I have the .svg version if it is ok. Mr. Matté (talk) 03:56, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
If it is a National Park Road, then it is PD, all works of the US Govt are PD. --Holderca1 talk 14:48, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
So then, here's the shield: Mr. Matté (Talk/Contrib) 20:05, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Still More South Carolina Road shields

I've got another batch of shields that are needed for SC. The first 10 are, 74, 77, 79, 91, 94, 95, 96, 98, 108, and 112. Thanks again, Rocketmaniac RT 05:21, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Note to acceptor: See my note here; SCDOT changed the shield design. I dunno if we want to finish off the old set, or just move on to the new style. Either way, there's a template for the new design on Commons. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 05:32, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps the old design should be kept as a reference. If the new one is official, though, then that's great. ----DanTD (talk) 06:20, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Just a quick post to ask what direction SC shields needed to be headed? Old or New? In the SC highways up to the 200's, I know of about 30-40 missing shields in the old style. I still haven't gone throught all of the higher numbers to see what is missing. I am finding out that SC has tons of state routes. This is the article that I'm working on, List of numbered highways in South Carolina. Thanks, Rocketmaniac RT 13:13, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Regarding whether to use the old ones or not, I'm going to start making the shields in the new design; whether they should be uploaded; let me know. —Mr. Matté (Talk/Contrib) 20:34, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Oh, definitely upload them, they use different file names anyways. --Holderca1 talk 20:38, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Most new South Carolina shields are DONE. —Mr. Matté (Talk/Contrib) 22:25, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Great. What are you naming these new shields? Thanks, Rocketmaniac RT 02:07, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
"South Carolina X.svg" --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 03:33, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
You can see them here: Talk:List of numbered highways in South Carolina/completion list. --Holderca1 talk 13:19, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
Wow, that's a long list. While SC has tons of state roads, that list appears to have all number between 1 and 999. I've switched all the existing shields over to the new style. Now I am going back and double checking all the highways and adding the highway numbers that while they aren't currently assigned to a highway, they did at one time exist and have a history. I've just completed highways up to 299 and have found another 30-40 shields that need to be created in the new style. Thanks, Rocketmaniac RT 13:33, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, see the note at the very top of that page, not all may have existed. --Holderca1 talk 16:59, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

TX FM shield template

Would it be possible to get a TX FM shield template? Currently there is a huge library of PNG TX FM images that I'd like to convert to SVG. --Rschen7754 (T C) 21:33, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Not a template, but my best guess is to create one for yourself (and if possible, upload it to Commons) using the blank FM shield and page 21 of the Texas DOT guide. —Mr. Matté (Talk/Contrib) 23:04, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
I have a template that I will upload (actually I have more than one, the numbers are different sizes depending on the number of digits). Yeah, there is about 3,500 different shields with only about 10-20% in svg format. They are a little tedious to make as the number is not centered on the shield, so you have to calculate the correct position each time you make one. --Holderca1 talk 21:27, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Here you go, just center the numbers on 224 and you should be good to go. Let me know if you have any problems. I didn't upload the templates for 1 and 2 digit shields since those are all complete. --Holderca1 talk 01:26, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. So I could go through commons and tag all the 1-2 digit TX FM PNG shields for deletion? --Rschen7754 (T C) 01:56, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Just so everyone knows, I've redone the templates so the numbers are already centered. —Mr. Matté (Talk/Contrib) 04:05, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
What are you talking about? You have to do it everytime, just like creating any other shield, different numbers have different widths, such as 1111 is not nearly as wide as 3000. --Holderca1 talk 11:49, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Holy crap, I just saw what you actually did. How did you do that? I have manually centered every shield I have ever created, didn't know it could automatically be done. How do you go about doing that? --Holderca1 talk 11:59, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
I had thought most of the 1-2 digit png shields had already been deleted, but if not yes. Actually, the completion lists are here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Texas State Highways/Completion list/Farm to Market and Ranch to Market Roads. --Holderca1 talk 11:52, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

I think this will be my last request for SC shields. I've gone throught all the SC highways and added all of the missing highways. Here is the article I am working on List of numbered highways in South Carolina. The first 10 shields that are missing are; 220, 222, 223, 224, 225, 226, 227, 228, 229 and 230. Many Thanks, Rocketmaniac RT 03:06, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

I'll put in an accept on this. They're now done. Whew! :) —Mr. Matté (Talk/Contrib) 21:21, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I know SC shields has been a big job, specially since there was a change in style. In the end, job well done. Rocketmaniac RT 23:35, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

West Virginia state shields

I dug through this site and try to find a sign drawing (I'm having trouble finding), I'm sure WV still uses normal state shields on interstates in sign drawing. Its better if we have these shields.

I would like to request county route shields for all the county routes on List of county routes in Cape May County, New Jersey that do not already have a shield. Dough4872 (talk) 15:17, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Cumberland County route shields

I would like to request the first 10 shields for List of county routes in Cumberland County, New Jersey:

Please archieve when the shield is made. Like the purple county routes is. Then we know which shields needs to come out. By the way I thouhgt the shields suppose to take 16 days on average to be manufacture, then how come some only takes less than 20 hours to be made.Freewayguy (Meet) 20:52, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Depends on the shields. County route shields have a template you can use (see WP:USRD/S/T) to make the shields in about 5 minutes or so. Also, we don't archive immediately so that the requester can see that the shields are ready for use.—Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 22:19, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Where did you get 16 days from? --Holderca1 talk 22:22, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

You are posting out of order. Anyways, we are still waiting for you to provide the specs for the Arkansas shields. --Holderca1 talk 03:06, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

The current shield image needs to be replaced. The bottom of the state outline (I think) is geographically accurate instead of simplistic, so it shows up too thick when you make the shield samller (i.e. 20x25px). You can compare the images at right, also take a look in Goldsby on the OK-74 junction list for what I'm talking about...

Also, while I was trying to get the images to appear at right, I noticed that the 74B image uses a different naming convention. -- Kéiryn talk 16:03, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, that was the test image that SPUI was working on when he was trying to make better Oklahoma shields. He uploaded it to the shorter convention because his batch upload script didn't support uploading over existing images, and all the old crappy SVGs that I had made before the new shields were common were at the "Oklahoma State Highway x.svg" convention (see Oklahoma State Highway 165.svg for an example of an old crappy SVG, that I replace with one of SPUI's as time permits). I'll upload a "better" version here in a bit, just haven't really gotten around to it because it didn't seem like a very high priority task. —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 17:04, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Arkansas state shields

Well, There in Arkansas is no entry of sign drawing in MUTCD site. But the current status is still state shields.

--Freewayguy (Meet) 04:19, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Note to anyone doing these: Arkansas seems to use an older version of the MUTCD for their shields...possibly the first specification? At right is a photo of one from near the Oklahoma state line. Hm, this gives me an idea....
If I could get the exact specs for these, I would be happy to do them. Would you like , , and as well? --Holderca1 talk 15:03, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Sure, I'll like those shields. Just I try to limit so I wont have over 10 requests at a time. That will be helpful to upload them. matter of fact much of Arkansas is state shields.Freewayguy (Meet) 05:17, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Accept: Just because you can't find specs doesnt mean we shouldn't upload it. The sign drawings is tough to find even Missouri, I cant find the specs for Iowa either. There is no source either say Arkansas no longer specifies state shields. Sometimes the map on interstate-guide is right AR is shade in blue anyways. Dont be too obsess with state documents either.--Freewayguy (Webmail) 00:11, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

By marking this accept, you do realize you're saying you're going to make them, right? You've said before that you don't know how to make shields. Just be patient. Nobody is doing to die if we don't have state-name shields for Arkansas. Better to be slow and get it right than to rush through with bad specifications and botch it. —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 00:17, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Whats an AHTD? I never hear this term and I dont know who to contact and I dont know their e-mail address. Alot of states such as Michigan dont use state-name shields, then why we for? --Freewayguy (Webmail) 00:30, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 00:38, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
That shield image exists because someone created it a while ago when they shouldn't have. The 3di template we use has been updated since then to make the numbers the correct size and to add in the border around the shield. Things like that happen when you don't wait to have the proper specs. -- Kéiryn talk 00:41, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure I understand what the big rush is here. There are shields that adequately fill the void already and there is no deadline on these requests. Based on your edit history, it doesn't appear you have ever edited a Arkansas highway. --Holderca1 talk 00:37, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, Arkansas is secretive about what they do;so we don't have access to state document right now. There is no such new shields post in Arkansas only guide-using shield the green display board like this ex. only in California Central-East Los Angeles. I think ARDOT still uses specific-state-name shields, and generally much of what i see is state-specific name shields. Same thing as Kansas. The KDOT uses state-name shields, but they have contraction errors because they dont have proper sign-drawing either. We cant find the proper specs for Kansas either.--Freewayguy (Webmail) 19:35, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Ok, I made the shields for everybody. I made the new shields (the ones with the bigger numbers) and the old shields (the ones with the smaller numbers). I hope you like them.

Old interstate shields

I wonder if someone could make a graphic showing each revision of the Interstate shield since it was first added to the MUTCD? I know the numbers have gradually increased as time as gone on, and the state name was originally mandatory. Thanks to anyone who can fulfill this. —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 18:36, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Off-topic stuff not related to actual request
  • I thouhgt there is no definite time of when the state shields aftually stop. Or formerly, the interstate shields was formerly control by FHWA, this is why before everybody has to have specific state name on interstates. Maryland has no control on state or neutral shields thats why the state document say neutral shields (However the neutral shields I thouhgt is not mandatory). Same situation as Minnesota. Georgia the Interstate-Guide paint them black thats wrong. When they say Georgia no longer use state shields after 1999 thats wrong too. Now the GADOT still makes specific state shields, just the GADOT no longer controls the shield making. Thats why GA gets option of making either state or neutral shields. In Nevada, the state shields is still many.
    • Hawaii uses neutral shields in sign drawing, but my current desktop to my wallpaper is state shields. There is actually more state shields newer made than neutral shields. Few states the sign drawing still takes control. In Kansas the DOT has no document but I think is the sunflower or element branch makes the state name shields mandatory. In Oklahoma the sign interstate is also cntrol. Many shields in Oklahoma is old this is why the state name is missing. However I think alot is recently tooken away and replace with normal state shields. I beleive newer ones have state names than the older ones. Arizona still uses normal state shields on sign drawing and their last revision is February 2005, meaning the state shields is still current. Missouri uses normal state shields in state document, however several state names on primary interstates is missing (per I-5, I-44, and I-64) potentially due to contraction makers. Oregon no longer have control, however the state shields last post on I-105/I-5 interchange over summer of 2007. They do his occasionally.--Freewayguy (Meet) 19:00, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Huh? I am not sure what you are trying to say. What do you mean by a state no longer has control? Also, keep in mind, a state may have the state specific shields posted, but no longer use that them. They changed over, but only replace the old shields when they need replaced. For example, Texas changed over to the neutral shields a while back, but I still see the state specific shields here and there. --Holderca1 talk 19:31, 18 February 2008 (UTC) There is two specific-state name shields post at summer of 2007 of I-105/5 interchange. When state no longer have control means they can use both nuetral or state shields. In sign drawing is just neutral shields (They can still use state shileds if they want). Vermont post a specific state-name shields at I-89 over summer 2007, Flor post namy state-name shields over summer 2006, Idaho post about 5 more I think.--Freewayguy (talk) 19:47, 18 February 2008 (UTC) In Virginia they did the same thing. The older interstates is missing state names. However the I-66 one is still putting the specific state name back in 2005.--Freewayguy (Meet) 20:08, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

No, no, no, no, you're all misunderstanding this. This would just be a single graphic with one example shield made from each of the official MUTCD specs through the years, along with a label next to it showing the year. —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 21:26, 18 February 2008 (UTC) I thought the state shield makes never terminates. Now Oregon made two state shields as summer 2007. Posting state shields under nuetral shields in state docment I thouhgt is not an erro. New York post numerous state shields 4 years ago. South Carolina still makes new specific state shields.--Freewayguy (Meet) 03:58, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Again, this has nothing to do with that. —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 04:54, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

My university library appears to have copies of the 1978 and 1985 SHS, and apparently an electronic version of the Millenium Edition. Since that would involve scanning and such, probably, I think I'll query MTR and see if anyone (possibly Richard Moeur?) happens to have copies of the specs lying around somewhere.—Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 20:55, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Through an MTR post, I have Image:1979 SHS M1-1.pdf! —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 03:52, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Off-topic stuff not related to actual request
If the state document uses neutral shields is only suggestion. They can still use specific state shields if they want to. Maryland post like 5 to 10 specific state shields over 2006, same as South Carolina and Alabama. Idaho post tons of specific state shields as July 2007.--Freewayguy (Meet) 20:39, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
That has no relevance to this request. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 20:46, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Not sure why you keep rambling on about this. Also, do the states actually keep a log of what shields they replace and where by year?? I have never seen such info. --Holderca1 talk 21:13, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Some states place a date of manufacture on the shield. But seriously, this has nothing to do with my request, so let's quit talking about state vs. neutral shields. —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 21:33, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

I thouhgt I move all this section to Talk:Interstate Highway System because this is not a place to talk about state vs. neutral shields. I didnt start this conv. somebody else did. Why dont we just remove this section.--Freewayguy (Meet) 20:52, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Because you're the only person talking about state vs. neutral shields. The rest of us are discussing the actual shield request. —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 20:57, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Okay, I only have the one SHS posted above that we can use. I checked the library, which only had the same SHS, but they did have a 1988 MUTCD, and the shield it showed as an example for the M1-1 (no specs were given) had larger numbers and a Series C font. I'm not sure whether this is significant or not, but if anyone's actively in the process of trying to dig up specs, perhaps the 1988 SHS would be a good target to search for. —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 07:15, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Historic Oregon US 30

I would like an SVG of the design ODOT is planning for the Historic Columbia River Highway. It would look similar to Image:Historic US 50 (CA).svg but with several changes, as described in [4]:

  • The light brown should be white
  • CALIFORNIA 50 should be OREGON 30 (duh)
  • OREGON US 30 - but not HISTORIC ROUTE - should be in the old style font

Thank you. --NE2 01:50, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Something along the lines of this?
Luokou (talk) 04:52, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Basically, though I'm not sure the OREGON / US is correct. I believe [5] is the right style. --NE2 09:19, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, on the 3-digit signs, it looks like the S is about to fall off the shield, any way to nudge that over a bit? --Holderca1 talk 16:04, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
I was able to nudge them, but I don't know if thats too far of a nudge or not. Its hard when the specs don't include the ones with the S. See if you can find a pic of a 3-digit shield so I can work off that because I don't even know if they use Series C or Series B. --Ltljltlj (talk) 18:32, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Ug, trying to find one, I found this picture with a spur plate over a standard sign. I now have no idea how they are supposed to be signed since the "SPUR" plate isn't listed in ADOT's specs either. --Holderca1 talk 19:00, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
I would think that they probably use Series B but I'm not certain. --Ltljltlj (talk) 19:13, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Utah interstate shields

I originally filed this request on Luokou's page, but seeing as he hasn't been active for a while, I thought it would be better to make my request here. Luokou made shields based upon Oregon specs for the Oregon interstate articles, and when I saw them I thought they looked very very similar, if not the same, as the standard Utah interstate shields. Could someone make an I-15 or I-80 shield based on the Oregon specs for now so I could see if it would work? If so we would need I-15, I-70, I-80, I-84 (which already exists but under an Oregon filename), and I-215. Thanks - CL — 17:01, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

What type of shields? State name specific like or shields like ?--Freewayguy TL C 00:36, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

The neutered ones. Take a look at... Image:I-205 (Oregon).svg, that's what I want except a 215 in place of 205. CL — 00:57, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
And Image:I-84 (Oregon).svg for the two digit ones as well. CL — 01:14, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Okay, like this image? I dont make shields, and we have ; so do you want File:I-15 (Utah).svg?--Freewayguy TL C 01:17, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

So Countylemonade, just hang on for a while; I don't know how to make shields, so if you provide the proper sign drawing for somebody, somebody will take a look at it.--Freewayguy TL C 01:18, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

There are specs for two- and three-digit shields that are provided here, on this pdf. I know they are Oregon specs but they are pretty much the same as Utah's, so they can be used for making shields in this case. I need 15, 70, 80, 84 (which can be copied to a new file location as it is already here) and 215 shields. That I-15 image you found isn't under Utah spec, for some reason they used EM font on it when it was supposed to be D. CL — 01:28, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Accept if I can make those shields. But hang on a little longer, I'm sure somebody will accept your task force and upload them soon.--Freewayguy TL C 01:35, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Alright, thank you for your time! CL — 01:49, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

By the way, Freewayguy, the image for I-84 already exists. All that needs to be done is get Image:I-84 (Oregon).svg copied so there is the same shield under Image:I-84 (Utah).svg. CL — 21:48, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Filenames for the shields (naming conventions)

CL — 05:10, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

County Lemonade; I figure out you can make those shields your self. You can move the state-specific I-215 to Image:I-215 (Utah).svg, and I-215 (UT) can be neutralize shield.I guess you do to others same as you did to i-84 (UT).svg.--Freewayguy T C 23:21, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

The I-215 image will need to be overwritten anyway, I've never seen it being used here. I could only do what I did to I-84 because it already existed, but under a different filename. All the rest of them (including 215) need to be created from scratch. CL — 01:22, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
The state-name specific then needs to go on Image:I-215 (Utah).svg becasue UT has use state-name specific in the past Countylemonade, and there is not valdi ration to delete it. You can overwrite Iamge:I-215 (UT).svg, but you need to put the state/specific on another name.--Freewayguy T C 02:44, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I will duplicate the existing 215 one for formatting's sake, as they need to be under one common file name to work under the infobox. CL — 02:52, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
I just duplicated the 215 image, so whoever is going to make these shields can go ahead and overwrite it. CL — 03:02, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
You can overwrite it if you want, so to avoid duplicate images, since the otehr one have been exist.--Freewayguy T C 03:09, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't get what you meant there. CL — 03:14, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Now you can overwrite Image:I-215 (UT).svg with the same format as Image:I-84 (UT).svg by neutralizizng that shield.--Freewayguy T C 03:16, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
What do you mean? It wasn't me who neutralized Image:I-84 (UT).svg, that image was already created by someone else. Am I getting what you mean? CL — 03:19, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Yup, but only because User:Luokou had made the exact same image before. All I did was save Image:I-84 (Oregon).svg on my computer and then reupload that file as Image:I-84 (UT).svg. I have no idea how to actually make shields. CL — 03:34, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
I was able to make those shields for you. I just switched the state name with the word 'big' since other states use those too.--Ltljltlj (talk) 04:44, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Thank you so much! I updated {{Infobox road/UT/shield Interstate}} but the update doesn't show up any of the infoboxes (I-15, I-70, I-80, I-84 or I-215), so I'm not sure what else to do. CL — 16:00, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

There are still a few that haven't been taken care of. I'll wait until you fix those before I request Volusia and Sumter County shields. ----DanTD (talk) 12:51, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
Done I only counted two on the Alachua list that I glossed over somehow, plus one on the Volusia list. -- Kéiryn (talk) 22:39, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Old style (California) Interstate templates

California and other states use the older style Interstate shields with the state name, but there's no templates for 2-digit or 3-digit. --Fredddie (talk) 11:07, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Not completely sure if this is what you're talking about, but Image:US DOT FHWA MUTCD SHS 2004 3-1 M1-1 600x600mm 88 NY.svg and Image:US DOT FHWA MUTCD SHS 2004 3-1 M1-1 750x600mm 678 NY.svg are the existing two and three digit with state name templates. —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 21:11, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
No, they're not the same. The white border around the shields are thicker than on these templates.--Fredddie (talk) 04:28, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
I'm not certian what your' talking about either. California still specify normal state shields in state document. Take a look at this diagram, and its link on every CA interstate shield. I'm not certain what you actually want. If you want to continue this conversation, you need to continue it somewhere else, because this place is for users to ask for shield ahsn't exist yet, ex. of purple county routes missing, or secondary highway when user don't exactly know how to make it.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 00:32, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry if I'm not clear, but I'm trying to request a template for shields that correctly uses the California diagram linked by User:Freewayguy. I don't have any idea what User:Freewayguy was trying to say, but I don't know of a template request page, or any other place other than here to request it, and I can't figure out Inkscape to save my life. So I asked here. --Fredddie (talk) 04:44, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
I think i know what you're getting at here... so i took the liberty to make some template shields from the existing ones. I left the text in these files fully editable, so all you have to do is get Inkscape or a program which will handle .svg files fine, plus the corresponding Roadgeek fonts. Afterwards, you can convert your edited text into paths and then save/upload/put your new shields wherever you need them to be. BTW, don't worry about how the shields look now, once the correct font is applied it'll look fine. Luokou (talk) 01:16, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
Yes! Thank you! --Fredddie (talk) 03:31, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

On another topic, are any of the old requests going to be archived soon? ----DanTD (talk) 14:20, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
Done with those shields are there any others that you need? --Carpetmaster101 04:12, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
Right now, I can't think of any. I've been making a few more Florida CR lists, but I'll wait until I'm finished with those before I make any related requests. Again, thanks. ----DanTD (talk) 13:40, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Renaming several shields

Freewayguy has asked me to rename several shields from "Interstate-X (New York)" to "I-X (NYST)" to better fit the naming convention. ("I-X (NY)" shields already exist and are the New York-specific non-state-name shields). I'd do it, but my current computer has issues with uploading several images and it ends up taking a long time. I don't know when I'll be able to get on a faster computer to do it so I decided to ask here. Here are the shields that need to be renamed:

-Jeff (talk) 02:32, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Do New York Interstate Shields have the state name? Last time I made one I was told that they do not and it was replaced with a neutral shield. (SEE Image:I-687 (NY).svg file history) --Carpetmaster101 03:23, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
No, they don't, but neither do most in Maryland and Image:I-95 (MD).svg is a state-name shield. Since all states used state-name shields at some point, there is nothing wrong with uploading them. The convention is that the I-X (ST) shields are state-name shields, so if someone replaced all of the I-X (NY) shields with ordinary neutered shields, then they need to be changed back to state-name shields. If the I-X (NY) shields are actually some style specific to New York then New York's state-name shields should be moved to I-X (NYST) as Freewayguy suggested.-Jeff (talk) 16:15, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
I didnt uplaod those shileds, and those is upload a while ago. I think I-00 (XX).svg is a conventional name and is suitable usage. Commons is differ from Wikipedia so it does not have to be now. its okay to have it just as long as we do not use it on article. I plan to have Image:interstate XX (New York) delete one day because that name is too long, but the image as of Commons policy cannot be delete. new York I know do not use state-name shields now, neither does most Maryland and Minnesota.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 01:29, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
I do know New York does not use state-name shields. I even check on interstate-guide, NY is shade in black, and its list on bottom. Its okay to have those name as i-00 (NYST).svg just as long as we don't use it in article and we won't. I'm not the person who made those old shields, and those images cannot be delete as of Commons policy.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 01:55, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Any other answers?--Freewayguy Call? Fish 18:06, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Will anybody copy it?--Freewayguy Call? Fish 20:48, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
The rename request is on the images; just wait. --Admrb♉ltz (tclog) 21:04, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

NYST means New York State Thruway... --NE2 21:11, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Anyway, does New York actually use the state name, or is this just more of Freewayguy's usual? --NE2 22:15, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

They don't. --Admrb♉ltz (tclog) 22:19, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
  • But the renaming request on Commons is taking forever. I don't know how much longer it will take to process.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 22:30, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
    • New York don't. was uploaded a while ago. It was not uploaded or requested by me. See the interstate-guide have a map. New York is shaded in black, meaning it uses neutral shields. It is also listed on the bottom, of states have few state-named shields. Commons is different from Wikipedia, and its not an encyclopedia, deleting it because New York no longer specifies state-named shields isnot a good reason.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 22:46, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
If New York doesn't use state name shields, why does it matter what those shields are called? --NE2 23:10, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
People like me prefers typing I-90 (NYS).svg rather than Interstate 90 (New York).svg.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 23:37, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
Typing it for what? These shouldn't be used in articles. --NE2 01:20, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
If I want it to use it on my sandbox, or on anywhere in my namespace, I prefer typing Image:I-190 (NYS).svg; Maryland does not use state-named shields either, but the shields we have is Image:I-95 (MD).svg. They shouldn't be used on articles anyways, but the agreement is those shields can be used in history sections ex. of I-70, I-95, and I-97, because the state-named shields is still used on those highways alot.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 03:48, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
It's not worth moving them to a confusing name for simply for your user space and possibly one article use. --NE2 05:25, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
 Done It's all done. All the I-00 (NY).svg moved to I-00 (long).svg; all the Interstate 00 (New York).svg moved to I-00 (NY).svg.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 03:53, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

I would like the shields for these two highways to use on List of highways numbered 531. For Kentucky, see Image:Elongated circle 535.svg for the template and upload the image at this link. For Mississippi, see Image:Circle sign 554.svg for the template and upload the image at this link. --CG was here. (T - C - S - E) 14:21, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

California Speed Limit signs

Moved from the talk page by --Admrb♉ltz (tclog) There are several signs out there with the words "Maximum Speed" instead of "Speed Limit", most notably "Maximum Speed 55", "Maximum Speed 65" and "Maximum Speed 70". These should be added. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.87.52.179 (talk) 04:30, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Spacing of the (big) shields

The numbers in the shields on Image:I-80 (big).svg, Image:I-90 (big).svg, Image:I-605 (big).svg, and Image:I-705 (big).svg are spaced too widely (the latter two should also be in series C font). I've provided links for all but one interstate (I-605 is only proposed) but I hope these give you a good estimate on how to space these. For I-80: [8] [9], for I-90: [10] [11], and for I-705: [12]. Thanks for whoever will waste their time on this silly spacing problem :) CL — 19:32, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Done, and it was a good waste of time indeed ;] Luokou (talk) 02:36, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
zOMG it's great! You have truly inspired me to do something, though that something hasn't been decided yet (probably create an article ). In all my zealousness, I forgot to request the same spacing fix for Image:I-70 (big).svg and Image:I-86 (big).svg; I hope an image isn't necessary in this case though. If it is just holler - CL — 02:50, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Columbia County is fixed, but Gilchrist isn't. In the case of Columbia, I added one other CR shield link after I made the requests. I'm going to make some more requests another time, because I don't want to break the 10-shield limit. ----DanTD (talk) 18:05, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
I think that they are all up and running, the gilchrist had the same problem and I made the CR 6. -- Carpetmaster101 23:56, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Early round of Florida CR shields

I was going to wait until I got done with other new County Road lists in Florida, but I changed my mind and decided to request them anyway. They're all for the existing County Road lists in the follwing Counties;

Wakulla County

  • Wakulla CR 299

Gilchrist County

  • Gilchrist CR 341

Columbia County

  • Columbia CR 133, 133B, 241, 246, and 1219

Sumter County

  • Sumter CR 243D, and 243F
