Wikipedia:WikiProject Transport in Scotland/The Proposal

Transport around Glasgow and Edinburgh[edit]

Description
I hope i'm not in way over my head. Currently there are about 5 systems in these two cities as well as many commuter lines, if the possible wikiproject branches out into that as well. There are many related articles which need to be managed and expanded and this will hopefully coordinate that but not be the dominating factor. The 5 possible systems to be covered are the Glasgow Crossrail, Edinburgh Crossrail (both seperate), the Glasgow Subway, the Edinburgh Tram Network and Fastlink (possble article creation needed).

Due to caving in, in the discussion, i have now changed the title to Transport in Scotland.

  • Please add suggestion below for possible shorter or alternative name
  1. Scottish Rapid Transit
  2. Scottish transport
  3. SPT & IE
  • Also to note is the temp page has only just been set up and needs development. Lead editor needed!
  • Also the proposed rail links to Edinburgh and Glasgow Airports; the rebuilding of the lines between Airdrie and Bathgate; Stirling and Alloa. The template below details the current operational lines, proposed lines to be re-opened; and the historical lines that the current network has developed from. • Comment: Are there any other WikiProjects dealing with Rail transport in Britain? If so, it might be good to work with them first. Also, the original title made it sound like you were including everything from Motorways and A-routes to airports to rail transport to ferry systems. Do you intend to cover all aspects of transport? Does rapid transit include buses? If you're looking for a shorter name dealing with just rail, how about WikiProject Scotland Rail Transport or something like that. Deal with passenger rapid transit, traditional passenger lines, and even freight around Scotland. That way there's no ambiguity as to what the project covers. --MPD01605 (T / C) 17:15, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Yes there is WP UK Railways. I'm not really sure, i think i was hoping to focus mainly on rapid transit projects in land and have possible extension to the general commuter network, especially with these new rail links but generally only between Gasgow and Edinburgh originally. I suppose it might be nore reasonable for rapid transit, with the exception of covering the Crossrails as well. Guided busways are generally classed as rapid transit. I was hoping this wouldn't go as far as Motorways and main roads, just public transport but with the excption of possibly including GARL and EARL, possibly not airports. So in other words, i am probably not going to include all aspects, just the oriinal 5 and see what happens. So i suppose i'm stuck right now. Simply south 17:31, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • Then how about WikiProject Scottish Rapid Transit? Just include those 5, and if someone wants to add more, they can. If in the future you wish to include more rail networks, no big deal, right? As for your relationship with the UK Railways project, you could be a child of it, much like the how the WikiProject Interstate Highways is a child of the WikiProject U.S. Roads. Just a thought. This project sounds fine, don't get me wrong. --MPD01605 (T / C) 18:09, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment I think that maybe a "Transit in Scotland," or "Transportation in Scotland" WP might be more appropriate. As mentioned above, you could just focus on what you want to focus on, and others could add more to it. Just my 2p. Canæn 03:30, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
