Welcome to the V-E Day group, an initiative of the Military history WikiProject.

Purpose & scope[edit]

The purpose of this initiative is to celebrate, and commemorate, the 75th anniversary of the End of World War II in Europe on the Main Page. The final goal of this project is to flood the Main Page with a plethora of articles about this event on the date(s) in question. Many articles should benefit as a by-product of the work completed here but this project is squarely focused on the Main Page. The goal is to create new articles or improve pre-existing articles to qualify to be featured on the Main Page as TFAs and DYKs. We also want to nominate FPs to appear as the POTDs.

At minimum, we need:

We may be able to go as high as 3 TFAs, 48 DYKs, 3 POTDs, and 3 TFLs, spread over 7 – 9 May, 2020.

Participants[edit]

Open tasks[edit]

  • Add your name to the participants list.
  • Watch the outcome of the special project to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 on the Main Page and learn from successes/failures.
  • Create talk pages, maybe one each for TFA, DYK, POTD, and Miscellaneous.
  • Start discussion to settle on date(s).
  • Start discussion to settle on potential TFA(s) on which to focus.

Progress[edit]

Phase 0: In this stage, the project needs to gather enough support and participants to fully appear. Please add yourself to the participants list above.

  • Settle on date(s).
  • Choose article(s) relevant to the date(s) as the potential TFA(s), the central focus of this project around which the Main Page will be built.

Phase I:

  • Get the potential TFA(s) to B-level.
  • Select a collection 8 to 48+ articles or redlinks relevant to the date(s) as possible DYK candidates.
  • Begin improving pre-existing
  • Identify some potential POTDs, either existing FPs or non-FPs. New files can also be uploaded.

Phase II:

  • Get the potential TFA(s) to GA-level.
  • Nominate and get approval for 8 to 48 DYKs. New articles can be created. Pre-existing articles need to be promoted to GA or expanded 5x to qualify for DYK.
  • Place approved DYKs in a special holding area at WP:DYKNA.
  • Settle on 1 to 3 POTD(s)

Phase III:

  • Get the potential TFA(s) to FA-level and add to WP:TFARP.
  • Vet DYKs for errors for a second time.

Final phase:

  • Write blurb(s) for the potential TFA(s).
  • Nominate the TFA(s) to be posted.

Worklist[edit]

Is it a candidate for FA or DYK? Article Grade Editor(s) currently working Notes
Both End of World War II in Europe Start An absolute mess. A move discussion, to Victory in Europe over the redirect, may be appropriate per WP:COMMONNAME.
DYK Victory in Europe Day Start Has good potential but requires work
Both Battle of Berlin A Milhist A-class article, but promoted in 2008 so likely needs a fair bit of work. Very important topic. Has never been at DYK and could qualify simply with a GA promotion.
DYKs Coverage of the Western Allied invasion of Germany Varies Wikipedia's coverage of this topic is generally very poor, with scrappy or no articles on the key events. Lots of scope for DYKs as a result.
DYK on 25 April 2020 58th Guards Rifle Division Kges1901 May be possible to get it to GA
Both Winston Churchill C Extremely long but may qualify for DYK via GA, or even FA
