This contest, provisionally titled The Peter M. Bowers International Award For Meritorious Service in the Pursuit of Aviation Knowledge or PeMBoInAwMeSPAK, aims to motivate increased quality in aviation articles and improve participation in the Aviation WikiProject by offering a form of friendly competition for project members. The primary contest available is a simple rolling competition that awards points for improving articles, as originally developed by the Military History WikiProject and Wikipedia:WikiCup.

When the contest is won, a special template will be placed on the winning contestant's user talkpage, and their name will be placed in the contest section of the Awards page.

Entering the contest[edit]

Sign up at Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Contest/Signups
Wait for your personal submissions page to be created at Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Contest/Submissions/YOURUSERNAME, or create it yourself with the information at Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Contest/Submissions
Enter articles you work on to your submissions page.
At the end of the month—or earlier, by request—the articles will be evaluated, and points will be awarded based on its standing in the project's quality scale before and after the improvements made.
Editors' point totals will be tracked, and monthly, quarterly, and annual winners will be recognized on the Awards page.

Contest rules[edit]

The contest is fairly simple in structure:

To get points for article or other featured content work, the article must fall under the Aviation Projects Scope (i.e. be tagged with {{WPAVIATION}}, and you must submit the article's information on your submissions page.

Maintenance points are not given for improving articles you recently created, but for clearing the backlog of the related categories.
To receive points for Article Improvement (Level Ups), the article must have been recently assessed with a B-Class Checklist completed prior to your article improvements. This determines beginning Class. In other words, points are given for improving the article, which results in a change in Class, not for simply adding the checklist or changing the Class to suit the current article state. (Note: Exceptions to this rule are articles above B-Class; these have individual review processes which determine Class and do not require the checklist.)
To receive points for Article Creation, assessments above Start-Class must be completed by another user, and not the article creator.
Articles or other media raised to any other status (featured or good) must have also been nominated and passed/promoted during the individual month. If your article is promoted during the next month it will count for that ongoing month.
Don't overload the Wikipedia:Featured article candidates, Wikipedia:Good article nominations and Wikipedia:Peer review systems. If you nominate an article for review, consider reviewing someone else's article, whether it's an aviation article or not.
New articles written for Did you know? must have been written and nominated during the individual month.
You must have written and nominated your In the news fact during the month.
To find the "Wikipedia Page Statistics of the Article", go here, change the drop down list to "en-wikipedia", and enter the article. Only the judges will use the link to see the page statistics.
