October 24[edit]

Is this anything special?[edit]

Downtown Waycross Historic District details (16).JPG
Comedy & tragedy

This: File:Downtown Waycross Historic District details (16).JPG is above an old theater. It is not comedy & tragedy, but does it represent something? Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 03:39, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

hi @Bubba73:, it may be fear .--Aryan from हि है (talk) 09:10, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There are sometimes comedy and tragedy masks (Sock and buskin) but I haven't heard of fear. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 01:15, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Jonathn Firth Children?[edit]

I noticed that you have recently placed the names of three children under the category of 'relatives' under Jonathan Firth's profile. These names appeared earlier but were removed because of unverified sources (as I understood). Are the sources now verified that Jonathan is, in fact, the father of three children? Just curious as to why this information was removed previously and now re-added. Any new verifiable sources to clarify whether he is married, single, divorced, or has a partner? His fans would like to know more about him personally, if possible. 151.226.199.226 (talk) 04:23, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

And they've been removed again. Unsourced names of non-notable people, especially children, should not be posted to articles per WP:BLP. Dismas|(talk) 13:49, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

hindi fimls set in 1857 ?[edit]

Which is the largest indian film set in 1857 ?--Aryan from हि है (talk) 08:36, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Define "largest". ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 13:05, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
In terms of budget its that aamir khan flop (forget the name now).Lihaas (talk) 19:45, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Lihaas: I think you are talking of Mangal Pandey . And @Baseball Bugs: , I meant in the terms of biggest hit.--Aryan from हि है (talk) 07:01, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You may wish to seek out and compare the box office figures for the four films listed in Category:Films about the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The only one of the four with box office figures given in the article is Mangal Pandey: The Rising (and you should probably double check its figures), so you will have an opportunity to improve the articles via your research. Given the older dates of the other films, it seems likely that Mangal Pandey's ₹550 million will be the winner. -- ToE 15:20, 31 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Trochee fixation[edit]

My question concerns this xkcd comic. The comic and all the commentary I've found about it mention the theme song from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but all I can think of is a much older, 1960's or so third-stream-jazz suspense/thriller theme, sorta Henry Mancini-ish, that starts out with a bass line:

Dun dun Dun dun Dun dun DUN dun
Dun dun Dun dun Dun dun DUN dun

which is then shortly overlain by a blaring trombone

Dweeee..... Dwee duh
Dweeee..... DWEEEE duh!
Dwee dwee dwee dwee dwee dwee dwee dwee dwee dwee duh
(Dwee duh)

and then the bass line comes back out from underneath for a few more bars:

Dun dun Dun dun Dun dun DUN dun
Dun dun Dun dun Dun dun DUN dun

It was the theme song for some old movie or TV show, I think, but I can't remember what. Anybody know what I'm talking about? —Steve Summit (talk) 12:46, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you were to record it on one of those record-it-yourself websites, either using the dun-duns or whistling or humming it, we might be able to give it a shot. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 13:04, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's the theme from Peter Gunn by Henry Mancini. --TammyMoet (talk) 14:22, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You are so right! Thank you. (I knew someone would get it. And I'm grinning that I was right about the composer. And WHAAOE.)
For those wondering what all my dun-duns were about (if not noodles :-) ), here it is, courtesy of YouTube. —Steve Summit (talk) 14:31, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The only way I know of to get rid of an "ear worm" is to replace it with another. Try watching the opening sequence of The Music Man a few dozen times. That might do the trick. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 00:33, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

1960's Batman joke[edit]

I've been trying to find a joke from the 1960's batman tv series or which episode it's in. All I remember is the villains plan is to replace all the bank tellers with robots to some nefarious end and batman works out they're robots by telling them a joke they don't laugh at and robin says "no one could resist that super funny bat joke". Video sharing sites[edit]

Despite the monopoly it enjoys over the industry, YouTube is severely overrated IMHO, so I am looking for a different video site to post my work. I have an account on Vimeo, but that site seems to be strictly professional - it's like to YouTube what LinkedIn is to Facebook. I'll keep my Vimeo account but what other sites are good for "fun" stuff? Theskinnytypist (talk) 14:35, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We have a category of video hosting that might be of use to you. Seems there's lots to choose from. 99.235.223.170 (talk) 15:39, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
What don't you like about YouTube that would make a different site meaningfully different? All of the others are relatively underrated. InedibleHulk (talk) 23:45, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

jaguars opponent for 2016[edit]

When is the Jacksonville Jaguars opponent for London in 2016 be revealed? --74.130.133.1 (talk) 14:45, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Don't the NFL schedules usually come out in the spring or so? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 00:32, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm talking about the Jaguars London opponent. Yes I know the schedules come in the spring but I just want to make sure when the Jags opponent be revealed. The London opponents were revealed during the 2014 season. Please comment here and on my talk page. --74.130.133.1 (talk) 14:22, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I assume you're referring to this announcement from last November. Given that, you might expect a smilar announcement for 2016 sometime in the next few weeks. And if it's not in Google yet, it likely hasn't been announced yet. Just that the Jags will be there for another couple years. Maybe they'r planning to become the Jacksonville Jaguars of London. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 14:35, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am. I hope Green Bay does play the Jaguars next year overseas. Thanks bro! --74.130.133.1 (talk) 15:50, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • It would be pretty easy to schedule it this early. The NFL schedule (excepting 2 games, which are set by finishing order from the previous year) is basically locked in using a fairly simple rubric (see National Football League regular season). 14 of Jacksonville's 16 opponents for next year are already set. However, the actual order they play them in are not, and lots of that has to be negotiated around television schedules, so it may be difficult this year to predict exactly which opponent Jacksonville would play in London. I believe that, except for Jacksonville (who has a separate agreement to play in London every year) the other teams who play in London (both the Jacksonville game and the so-called two other NFL International Series games are played at Wembley each year) are assigned on a semi-rotating basis, which means that they try to make sure every team gets a shot to play in London every once in a while (or, if your perspective is different, that every team gets forced to play in London every few years). The Wikipedia article NFL International Series has some information about the LIKELY Jaguars opponents in 2016, but does not have it set yet. --Jayron32 13:11, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
