Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite[edit]

I've listed this article for peer review because I was instructed to have a completed peer review for it before nominating the Marvel vs. Capcom series of articles for good topic status. Any and all feedback is welcome.

Comments from IDV[edit]

  • The lead is quite short compared to the article's length, and should be expanded with a summary of the gameplay and development sections
  • I've written something out in my sandbox. Would you mind checking it out quickly and see whether I should change anything? Thanks! Wani (talk) 17:10, 15 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Wani: Looks good, only thing I would change is "officially announced" - the word "officially" doesn't add anything here, so it should be removed. The only time I would use "officially announced", I think, is if someone announced the game unofficially beforehand (say, if the director accidentally mentioned it in an interview) and we wanted to contrast the developer/publisher-approved announcement with that.--IDVtalk 18:10, 15 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Is Evans truly the game's producer? He is listed as this in the infobox, but under development it says he is the director of production at Capcom. I'm not familiar with the internal structuring at game development companies, but I'm not sure if those two roles are one and the same.
  • I don't know either. Just to air on the side of caution, I've removed it. Wani (talk) 02:46, 15 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Are there any in-game screenshots available for this game yet? If so, include one in the gameplay section that shows typical gameplay (so probably one character attacking another)
  • We've gotten two trailers thus far (both from December), but the footage represents very early gameplay (there wasn't even a HUD). Capcom also hasn't released any separate gameplay screenshots; any images found through searches are basically ripped from the trailers...so, I'm not sure if I should still use them or not. Wani (talk) 02:46, 15 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Cool, then it's fine to wait until they release some proper screenshots.
  • Consider splitting the prose in the gameplay section into two paragraphs - the single one you have right now is quite long. I would probably split it at "Infinite will also implement a gameplay mechanic..."
  • Is there any pre-release reception information that could be added? If it exists, this would be a good addition.
  • I can look into it, but I've never written a pre-release reception section before. Know any good examples from other articles I can use as reference? Wani (talk) 03:11, 15 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • It's hard to remember what every article looks like if I haven't worked on them myself, and this is mostly something that is needed when the game or whatever the article is about hasn't been released yet. I have written pre-release or preview sections in Necrobarista and Chaos;Head (anime) - it's basically like an ordinary reception section, but summarizing what RSs thought of the game prior to its release.
  • @IDV: So, I have something started in my sandbox again, but since I could only find two good sources, I'm not sure if it's enough to post on the actual article yet...two opinions for a reception section isn't much. What do you think? Wani (talk) 00:39, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Wani: While it's true that two sources isn't a lot, I think it looks fine for what it is - it can be expanded as we get closer to launch and more articles are written. If the game is demoed at E3 or something similar, I imagine we'll get some more coverage we can use. But yeah, I have nothing against it being copied into the article.--IDVtalk 00:45, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Archive all web sources - it's a good habit to do this while they're still alive, so we don't have to risk losing them when/if they die.
  • I don't know how to archive sources, but I'd love to learn. Wani (talk) 03:11, 15 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sure, it's quite simple. You copy the URL to the source you want to archive and go to an archive site - the most commonly used is the Wayback Machine. Paste the URL into the search bar. Upon clicking "browse history" you will be taken to a page where you can choose from the different snapshots there are saved of the source - unless you're looking for what a page looked like in the 90s or whatever, you are probably looking for the latest snapshot, so click that, and copy the URL to that page (for instance, https://web.archive.org/web/20170415001635/google.com for a snapshot of Google from today). In case there is no snapshot saved, you can paste the URL for the page you want to archive into the "save page now" bar on the Wayback main page. When you have the archive URL, go to the reference in the article and add the parameters |archive-url= |archive-date= |dead-url=no. Archive-date is for the date the snapshot was saved, so not necessarily the same as the date you looked at it.
  • You don't need to specify "EGM Staff" if the article isn't credited to a specific person.
  • In cases where the publisher and the work is the same, you don't need to include them twice (such as "Capcom. Capcom." or "The Beat. The Beat.")
  • The IGN and Polygon sources' titles aren't actually all-caps - that's just how headlines are stylized on those two websites. You can just copy the titles from there and paste them into the references, and it'll look as it should.

@Wani: I've replied to your questions.--IDVtalk 12:30, 15 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@IDV: And with that, I've covered everything that I can at this point. Thank you so much for taking the time to review the article and suggest improvements! Wani (talk) 00:53, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Wani: No problem, and good job with the article!--IDVtalk 00:59, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Don't have much too comment since the article is in good shape but I wondered if this link would be useful.Tintor2 (talk) 16:25, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I added in the blurb about the Infinity Stones' influence on the game's title. Wani (talk) 17:24, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
