Kathy Mattea[edit]

I've listed this article for peer review because I want to get it to WP:GA status. Kathy Mattea is one of my favorite country singers and her article was sorely lacking until very recently when I decided to tackle it.

Overall, I think the article is very strong, and probably meets GA status as is. Since I've never heard of this artist, I feel like I got an overall thorough, unbiased overview of her life and career. I also feel like from a technical standpoint (grammar, MoS, etc...) the article was solid. That said, it doesn't completely meet the MOS standards. There are a few paragraphs that begin with numbers, which should be avoided per WP:NUMNOTES. Also, how you render quotes in text depends on the surrounding sentence. For example:

  • Mary said that "noodles are John's favorite food."
  • Mary said, "Noodles are John's favorite food."

If you integrate the quote into the sentence, the first letter should not be capitalized. If you render the quote apart from the sentence, the first word should be capitalized. I wanted to refer you to the MOS, but unfortunately, it is tagged for not having an example. Also, if a quote ends in the middle of a sentence, you do not use terminal punctuation, unless it's a question mark. So:

  • Mary said, "Noodles are John's favorite food," right before he walked in with a bowl of ramen.
  • Mary asked, "Are noodles John's favorite food?" right before he walked in with a bowl of ramen.

In this sentence, "Between the end of the 1980s and beginning of the 1990s, Mattea began touring as a headliner for the first time, in addition to performing on the Grand Ole Opry," these are things you do on a single occasion, not over time. So it should be something like, "In May of 1985, she began touring as a headliner and performing at the Grand Ole Opry." Either that, or take out "began." In the phrase "an all-star rendition," all-star feels POV. The reference section is refreshingly very good (it so rarely is), with the exception of this reference: "Hot Country Songs 1944 to 2012" by Whitburn. Please reference WP:CITESHORT, to do it correctly. I also don't mind fixing it if you want me to.

I made a few other edits as well, which you will see in the history.--Esprit15d • talkcontribs 14:32, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
