Tour options[edit]

Note: A start at the Wiki Education Foundation's office in the Presidio is optional. You can either come directly to the first stop in Marin/Sonoma or we'll find a pickup place that works for most of us.

Tour "Marin Cheese Makers"[edit]

Starting at the Marin French Cheese Company right outside Novato, we'll have a picnic (weather permitting) and taste their award-winning brie. The oldest continuously operating cheese factory in the United States, Marin French Cheese doesn't yet have a Wikipedia article. So, we might want to document not only their delicious cheeses, but also the building, etc. Then, we'll drive west and go to Nicasio, home of the Nicasio Valley Cheese Company. They're known for their farmstead cheeses in the Swiss tradition. On our way back to the city, we'll stop at the Wiki Education Foundation's offices in the Presidio to take additional photos (the kitchen features a lot of natural light), improve articles, and taste some of the cheeses we bought in Marin (optional). Local red wine will complement our tasting session.

Driving time for this tour:

  • 11 Funston Avenue (Wiki Education Foundation office) – Marin French Cheese (53 minutes)
  • Marin French Cheese – Nicasio Valley Cheese (8 minutes)
  • Nicasio Valley Cheese – 11 Funston Avenue (43 minutes)

Tour "Sonoma Cheese Makers"[edit]

From San Francisco, we'll drive up to Petaluma where we'll take a tour of the Spring Hill Cheese creamery. This will give us the opportunity to document the different steps in cheese production. The 45 minute guided tour will include a cheese tasting and requires a certain dress code (pants and closed-toed shoes, no jewelry). We'll return via Highway 101 to San Francisco, where we'll have the opportunity to stop in the Presido, at the Wiki Education Foundation's office. There we can postprocess some of our best photos, upload the images to Commons, and taste the delicious cheeses we brought back from Sonoma (optional). Local red wine will complement our tasting session.

Driving time for this tour:

  • 11 Funston Avenue (Wiki Education Foundation office) – Spring Hill Cheese (57 minutes)
  • Spring Hill Cheese – 11 Funston Avenue (57 minutes)

Note: If you have an idea for another tour option, please feel free to add it above. If you'd like to comment on the current options, please use the talk page.
