The 2022 Independence Day Edit-a-thon will be an event by Wikimedia Community Zambia set to take place during the Independence Day and post-Independence Day celebrations
This will be a two-day event to fight the historical and gender information gap to create and improve Wikipedia articles related to Zambia's history during and after independence other areas to be touched are women of national importance that have not been covered to try and combat the Women in Red. Food, caffeine, and moral support are provided.
Details[edit]
We encourage you to bring your own laptop, power cord, and ideas for entries that need updating or creation. For the editing-averse, we urge you to stop by to show your support. Attendees are asked to register beforehand and to bring any books, journals, magazines, or newspaper articles relevant to pages they're interested in to use as sources for research. No Wikipedia experience is necessary; Social hour with light refreshments begins at 11 a.m., and edit-a-thon at noon.
Preparation[edit]
If you're coming, try to create a Wikipedia account beforehand: don't wait until the day to do it! Here's a form you can use. Creating an account makes editing much easier (more info). You'll need to pick a "handle" for your username; you could use your real name, but it's nicer to have the option to be a bit anonymous if you want. Chabota's username is Icem4k.
Read up on Wikipedia: there are lots of tutorials, please check out the ones provided at the bottom of the page.
Have a think about topics you'd like to work on. Check out their pages and see if there are obvious mistakes or problems. Maybe even do a little research first so you're prepared. Bring along references for the information you want to add. If the topic you're interested in doesn't have a Wikipedia page, we could even create one. If you're stuck, there are lots of pages that need work: here are some suggestions.
Articles to develop and create[edit]
Articles need to pass notability, which typically means the person is well-known enough to be discussed by sources in the media or in academic articles. These are some articles ready for expansion:
