Participants at the Otago Museum history edit-a-thon
UC Arts Digital Lab staff on anti-bullying day
  • While in Dunedin I ran workshops for local GLAM staff, organised an edit-a-thon on the history of Otago Museum, and began an upload of the museum's collection images (hampered by some metadata and export problems). At the end of my time in Dunedin I was invited to attend the excavation of seven moa footprints at Kyeburn. Although none of the amazing video and images have yet entered Commons, I've been assured by the museum that this will be happening…
  • For most of the month I was based at the University of Canterbury Arts Digital Lab, where I gave public talks, workshops with university staff, and began a project on the Residential Red Zone (a post-Chch Earthquake site).
  • I collaborated with Tim Jones of Christchurch Art Gallery on a talk and workshop on getting NZ artists into Wikipedia. After presenting on Wikidata at a GLAM meetup, two proposed the Wikidata property Find NZ Artists ID, and I organised a Mix'n'Match upload of 4751 names from that database.
  • At the first meetup of Christchurch Wikipedians for some time, we finally agreed on a plan for creating a NZ Wikimedia User Group.
  • A meeting with iNaturalist NZ team had been planned for a long time, and there was a very positive reception to working more with Wikimedia and making large numbers of nature photography available under an open licence.
  • In May the North Face marketing scandal broke, and after tweeting about it I ended up being mentioned in some of the media coverage.
