Original – The Japanese Sega Mega Drive video game console. This is the first design model of the system.
Original – A North American Sega Genesis video game console with 6-button controller. The Sega Genesis is a 16-bit, fourth generation game console that was first released in 1988. This is the second remodel of the console and is shown with a 6-button that was released later in the console's life.
Reason
Lead images in a featured article, high technical quality, popular system. I could start reminiscing, but nobody cares about how I traded my first place prize (a boombox) for a second place prize (a Genesis) back in second/third grade.
Articles in which this image appears
Both in Sega Genesis and History of video game consoles (fourth generation). The second one is in several further articles.

  • Support. This guy has done some fantastic console product photography. I actually read an article about him and his work on Wikipedia a while back. It's a fascinating read (and echos a lot of the issues that we face here, in trying to improve the quality of Wikipedia's imagery). Ðiliff «» (Talk) 13:03, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • Agree wholeheartedly. I've tried convincing him to apply for a WikiMania Scholarship, to go to London, but I don't know if he did. If he went, the presentation would probably be pretty popular. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:06, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, old good times, I remember playing them both... (even though the joystick in the original version slightly obscures the look). Brandmeistertalk 14:34, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support but it looks like a very very very short cord. I wonder if that detracts from the EV at all... Mattximus (talk) 20:13, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • I suspect he's just tied up the extraneous cable behind the controller to make it visually neater. You can see that the cable doesn't align perfectly on either side the controller. Could just be a kink though. Ðiliff «» (Talk) 21:01, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
      • Agree, Evan tied up the cable a bit. I haven't had a Genesis in... oh, it's gotta be 15 years... but the cables were a bit longer. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:28, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support; see nothing wrong here. Tezero (talk) 01:57, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support #2, Waiting on #1 - The first image has a purple blotch in the upper right hand corner that needs touching out. Once that's done, I'll support that as well. Excellent work from Evan Amos as usual. Sven Manguard Wha? 02:05, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • That appears to be a shadow, but I've tried to remove it anyways. Thoughts? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:17, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support Very nice product shots. Is there a difference between this jpeg version and the transparent png one? --CyberXRef 05:48, 20 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • How they display at thumbnail size. Wikipedia and Commons' PNG thumbnail displays are broken, which is why templates such as Template:Compressed version exist. Once the image is on a user's computer there should be no difference, which is why PNGs (which do not lose detail as they are resaved) are preferred for reuse. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:26, 20 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support both - More great photos by Evan Amos. Lewis Hulbert (talk) 09:56, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
