Function Details: Initially the function will be using AWB to automatically tag articles with the swimming project banner. This is required due to the vast numbers of swimming related articles. Currently i have a list of over 6600 . I attempted to do this manually however due to the fact that there are so many articles, i decided that my time could be better used in other aspects of the project and a bot would be appropriate. This bot will also automatically asses the class of articles if the article is marked as a stub.

As the project grows and new priority areas arise this bot could be used for other activities such as general clean up of spelling etc) however the main priority is t establish what articles are in the scope of the project. An approval request will be submitted if the use of the bot changed.

Yep ill be using that Plugin, i've already configured it using my normal account (not the bot account), and its ready to go. All i'll need to do once im approved here is to get approval for the bot to use AWB and then we're ready to start! Printer222 (talk) 22:20, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

I've had a bit of a problem, i thought i turned it off once i did the 50 edits and i was investigating a problem, and it seems that i didnt turn off. It looks like its done about another 100 edits. Im sorry, ill make sure it doesnt happen again Im going to go through all the edits and manually make sure they are all alright.

Can i please have 20 more test edits, It appears that i may have set it to auto stub every article something i didn't want but must of set it as a mistake. Lucky i was only tagging mainly stub articles, i've rectified the issue but just need a few more edits to make sure that i've really fixed it. Just went through all the articles that the bot tagged and fixed up 24 articles that were taged 'stub' that weren't suppose to be. I've tried to fix this, and ive done like 2 more edits that still are adding articles as stub articles when they are not. Ive approached the author of the plugin to see if he can help. Worst case scenario is that i turn off the auto tag stub article feature. And just leave the quality as un-assessed, and then once ive sorted out the issue i can run the program again and automatically asses the stub class articles. Hopefully i can sort it out soon. I've got no issue with that for this particular task, as the project develops i imagine that the bot will run daily or so to help with the maintenance of articles, but we will address that in the future. Printer222 (talk) 08:47, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Well, that can't be run under a bot account. Cleanup and spelling fixes will need to be done under your own account while approving edits. BJ^Talk 08:49, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Thats fine, we wouldnt use it for those sort of tasks in that case. Would it be possible if after the initial tagging if we could run the bot say once a week on the relevant cats. to find any new articles that belong in the project that haven't yet been tagged?Printer222 (talk) 09:35, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

I've sorted out the problem. The bot will go through a list of all the stub articles relating to swimming and tag them with the template and assess them as 'stub class'. The bot will then run through the whole list of ALL swimming related articles, and tag all articles that DO NOT already have a template, i have ensured the code that skips an article if it already has a template is working and ive tested it (there is one template that simply redirects to the main template that has been used in some cases so ive made sure that if this template is present it also skips it). I'm now happy to run the bot, or do say 20 more trial edits if need be. I can't think of any more issues that could arise. It wasn't a difficult solution to come up with. {{BAGAssistanceNeeded}}
