Valerie Wilson[edit]

Thank you for your comments to that anon editor on Valerie Wilson. He has been attacking that stub—albeit less obviously—for many days now. I have attempted to engage him in a discussion, assuming good faith, as to why he will not allow the article to stand as it was written. This is the only thing that he has said:

I live in NY state; I delivered lottery magazines for over 8 1/2 years. Since NY retired "Tax-Free Million" in 2000, there has not been a "true" million-dollar scratch prize offered by the NY Lottery. Tax-Free Million was lump-sum; the check (after withholdings) was for exactly $1 million, so the actual prize was more than $1.5 million.

NO lottery/sweepstakes etc winner should ever be forced to receive annuity payments. Ms Wilson, in both cases, was forced to receive her "million-dollar" prize in 20 annual payments. Since she was already being paid through an annuity; IMO it made no sense for her to play for another annuity. She should be trying her luck on Mega Millions, which has a cash option. For whatever reason, NY allows the cash/annuity choice on Mega Millions, but not on its scratch games.

Annuity-only prizes should be boycotted (including "lifetime" prizes).

BTW the cash value is not "less" than the annuity; the lump sum represents the present-day value of future money (ie inflation). 216.179.123.145 13:51, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I encourage you to read my comments on the talk page; I think I have been a paragon of patience. The guy obviously is on a campaign to attack annuity-style jackpots, but why he is bringing it here is beyond me. I do believe that he is sincere in his beliefs (all he does here is edit lottery articles), but he is really lacking a grasp on normal Wikinteraction. (Did I just coin a word?) Anyway, I was wondering if you were an admin, or if you knew how to get him blocked. He does not appear to have a static IP address, so it would take several blocks, but I think he needs to be. Thanks for pointing this out. I am not an admin and actually a relatively new user (this was the first warning a gave in a long time). I think for now we should wait if he/she makes another "move", give a proper "last warning" and report it on WP:AIV. You can do it yourself if you want, and I will certainly keep an eye on this. Uploaded image[edit]

{{helpme}} Could someone help me correctly deal with this image. The author in his blog (in my request to release the image into public domain) stated that he allows to use the image "in any form you find appropriate".

Join the gretl team?[edit]

Hi,

I see that you are interested in Statistics and also is an advanced C programmer. Have you looked at the gretl software? It is an open source software for econometrics and statistics programmed in C. Maybe you will consider joining the programming team and implement missing statistics functions?

Image:NINT Logo.gif[edit]

Hello Ypetrachenko, an automated process has found an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, such as fair use. The image (Image:NINT Logo.gif) was found at the following location: User:Ypetrachenko/Gallery. This image or media will be removed per statement number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. The image that was replaced will not be automatically deleted, but it could be deleted at a later date. Articles using the same image should not be affected by my edits. I ask you to please not readd the image to your userpage and could consider finding a replacement image licensed under either the Creative Commons or GFDL license or released to the public domain. I knew Kirill Yuryevich Lavrov in person, worked with him in front of the camera, and my father worked with him professionally for many years in Leningrad - St. Petersburg. If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Spencer (surname)[edit]

I am interested in why Smith (surname) is ranked as a "B" article and "Important" when Spencer (surname) is clearly the most extensively researched and better presented encyclopaedic article (probably the best with the exception of a Chinese surname) but is ranked as a "Stub" and of only "Moderate Importance"?
