A new barnstar specifically encouraging and recognizing excellence in Milhist article creation and development has been introduced. Any editor who has made a significant contribution to three or more Milhist A-Class articles promoted since 1 August 2008 under the new A-Class criteria is eligible. Nominations for the medal should be made here; should list the three A-Class articles for which the medal is sought; and must be subsequently supported by three or more project coordinators, who will be responsible for making the award. Current proposals and discussions A new discussion about whether Milhist should adopt C-Class is underway. All comments are welcome. The 2008 Tag & Assess Workshop is still open, seeking input on ways to improve the efficiency, user-friendliness and organization of future Milhist drives. All comment is welcome, especially from people who didn't participate in the drive!
Awards and honors Durova has been awarded the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves in recognition of her exemplary work on military history featured pictures, sounds, and articles. JonCatalán has been awarded the new Milhist A-Class medal for his work on three newly-promoted tank-related articles: Panzer I, TAM and AMX-30E. The new Milhist A-Class medal also goes to Bellhalla for his three ship-related articles: USS Mercy (AH-4), SS Pennsylvanian and SS Dakotan. The Contest department has completed its seventeenth month of competition, which saw an unprecedented 54 entries. The top scorer this month is Bellhalla with a record 120 points, followed by JonCatalan with 56 points. Abraham, B.S., Cam, Ed!, Woody, David Underdown, Gaia Octavia Agrippa and Kyriakos also fielded entries. Blnguyen remains the overall leader, with 226 points in total. The Chevrons go to Bellhalla and JonCatalan gets the Writer's Barnstar. You are encouraged to submit any articles you are working on as entries. Glenunga International High School

Hi Blnguyen. I don't want to get into an argument, so I will defer to your judgement. (In any case I remember it was you who posted a welcome on my talk page, yonks ago, so you have some credit due. :) ) However I must point out that apart from the date of establishment there is also the fact that the name "Adelaide Technical High School" was not apparently used until 1918. This is borne out (but unfortunately without a reference) here. Also I have at least provided a reference, where there was none. Since you may not have access to NewsBank, here is the text of the source:

• CONTRARY to the statement in ``Do You Remember?`` (The Advertiser, 28/3/98), the South Australian School of Mines and Industries was established in 1889, well before the Tech. It was in 1903 that the School of Mines established a preparatory school, renamed the junior technical school in 1914 and, subsequently, the Adelaide Technical High School in 1918. In fact, the first recorded reference to the planning for the establishment of the original prep school goes back to 1898 so, this year, in May, the Adelaide Tech old scholars will celebrate (with some gusto and nostalgia) the centenary of its birth. It should also be noted that the Tech was unlike other technical high schools in SA in that, while it did include some studies in technical subjects such as woodwork and sheetmetal work, its emphasis was strongly academic, and its students consistently gained top honors in the Intermediate, Leaving and Leaving Honors public examinations. In 1963, because of pressure on space at the North Tce campus of the SA Institute of Technology (previously the SASM&I), the Tech was transferred to Glenunga where it now exists as the Glenunga International High School. It is pleasing for old scholars of the original school to know that that excellence in academic standards is still the driving force at Glenunga.

Wow, another Glenunga person....I guess we should put in both interpretations, and note that the school and old scholars celebrated it in 1998 and that they view 1898 as the establishment of the school. Unfortunately with regards to the academic performance, the school hasn't been so successful in exams and maths/science competitions and has been declining in the last 6-7 years. I wonder if it isn't best to rewrite the split sections almost from scratch. Trying to trim the article and stay in summary style is difficult. Also, each of the split articles needs a lead section, structure etc. I must admit my enthusiasm for all things Wikipedia is at a low ebb at the moment but I will chip in and see what I can do. I've been taking a bit of a break from the FT project, but I'm ready to push on. I see that (since I abandoned it for Bradman a few months back) thanks to your efforts, Miller's article is in great shape. Shall we get it over the finish line? Yes, although I might be busy for a while becuase all the swimming articles are being swamped with messy edits and vandalism every day after the swimming finals. Also, because the main article and the forks are very similar I think it would be efficient for you to copyedit them in tandem since, the main article was forked to make it smaller and it is just a pruned down version of the uncut info in the subarticles. and also about the pruning, yeah it would be good for a third party to have a look because I am a bit attached. I would say the military section needs to be pruned down because he isn't famous for being a successful pilot, but mainly because of all the incidents that made him such a distinct personality. Maybe I've overemphasised this, but because Miller is so important I left all those incidents in there. Same for early life I guess. All of those are already in the subarticle so we don't lose anything. Secondly, nobody's going to kill us if the article is around the 80k mark - it's currently 85k - there've been some longer Wikipedia talk:Featured article statistics. It's probably an error, so I can delete it. I'm using Perry for convenience. He is a bit hopeless really, so when something doesn't add up, or is contradicted by some other place, he's been careless again. I see Phanto's IP has chipped in and removed some other things. Can you please re-protect the article under the version where there is no dispute over the contentious NPOV vios? Naadapriya continues to edit war to reinclude these long term vios, despite my attempts to discuss these concerns on the talk page, and try to resolve this dispute through acceptable forms. Swimming World Magazine Updates

Hey there,

I'm the managing editor of Swimming World Magazine, and have decided to try to expand/place some of our historic data here on Wikipedia. However, I'm horrible at wikiediting.

I used your table for the world swimmers of the year and altered it to try something for the high school national championships table.

That content is now on the Swimming World page, but probably should be on a separate page. No clue how to do that.

Also, can you make sure I did the table right, along with the three notes?

I'd also like to do two other things on here, but don't have a clue how to go about it. First, the easy one, is just add a list of past high school swimmers of the year. That should be pretty simple.

The second, which is going to take a LONG time, I'd like to figure out some way to capture all of our cover information in one place. Like, who has appeared on what covers and how many times. We have all the images hosted on our site, so it's not something we would need to put on wikipedia. But, I'd love to have all that information in an easy to see spot.

The very last thing I'll probably do after those projects is try to come up with a complete anthology of the names and authors of all back content. That way, people can tell who is the most prolific writer in our history.

Also, I think that if you placed a listing of all the articles and cover details on Wikipedia it would be removed on the grounds of WP:NOT, under the grounds of advertising. Hullo!!! How are you??? I've mailed you a long time back. Did you have a look at it??? You see I badly want this thing to be cleaned up. The stuff appears in search results. Your suggestion that I request User:EncMstr to remove them is pretty good. But then, you see, since I accused him of inactivity with respect to the User:NisarKand issue, I am not sure if he would oblige me by removing those messages. This is exactly the reason why I approached you. Do you have any alternate suggestions or possible means to get it cleared? I am extremely sorry if I am troubling you but then it is not my intention to do so. I hope you understand my plight. The thing gets on to me whenever I log in to Wikipedia. I haven't been contributing much of late as you might get to know from my edit count. The problem is that Wikipedia talk pages are as easily accessible as articles. Surprisingly enough, there actually isn't a great amount of information available on him. However, I do actually intend to expand it further; I have just purchased a copy of his biography on eBay and it should arrive sometime next week. With this as a resource, I should be able to expand it quite a bit further. Hm, if you find any relevant book on Questia you can ask Bilby (talk · contribs) to sent you the full text of it. He has access and writes stuff about Austrlaian war memorials. And you should probably try out without copyediting it, I'm not sure that mine does much good actually. I wrote Stan McCabe randomly without doing a ce and it actually had some really bad prose, and Jackyd gave it 8, and he gave BAW 8 as well.....YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 03:13, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
