Sorry, but I only copy edited the article and assumed the data to be factual. I am not in the position to neither confirm nor deny that he was awarded the House Order of Hohenzollern. I can't say for sure but the picture does show him wearing the Order, I think. Check File:Ridder Huisorde Hohenzollern.jpg, the ribbon looks different but otherwise it seems to match. Short Type 135 / Admiralty "Improved Type 74"
Hi, I'm sorry not to have responded earlier; I rarely sign in to WP these days, so I have only just seen your question.
Most of my Shorts-related information comes either from Barnes & James "Shorts Aircraft since 1900" or from the Flight archives. The reference to the "Improved Type 74" is from the former (Putnam 1989). The mention is a little hard to follow and I needed to refer to several sections of the book to piece it all together again!
The first batch of 8 (Short construction numbers 96-103, RNAS nos. 811-818) were also the first to be built at Rochester seaplane works (April 1914); they had 100 hp Gnome-Monosoupape engines installed because the intended Salmsons were in scarce supply at the time. Barnes writes: "... somewhat misleadingly, the Admiralty called them Improved Type 74, but they were identical in design to the Salmson seaplanes except for the deeply cowled overhung engine mounting and a much smaller fixed fin. These eight (811-818) were all assigned to Empress, Engadine and Riviera, and 811, 814 and 815 took part in the Cuxhaven raid, flown by Edmonds, Gaskell Blackburn and Oliver respectively."
Tracking back to find the 'Salmson seaplanes' referred to, I found this (p. 97): "In September 1913 the Admiralty ordered two similar prototype Short seaplanes, one with the single-row Salmson of 135 hp and the other, slightly larger, with the double-row version rated at 200 hp. ... Entirely by coincidence, the smaller seaplane was allotted the serial 135 and the larger 136; they were delivered to Grain in July and Aeptember 1914 respectively. On Christmas Eve they formed part of the complement of nine seaplanes, seven of the Shorts, aboard the three carriers Empress, Engadine and Riviera, which sailed with an escort from Harwich in an attempt to bomb the Zeppelin base at Cuxhaven." He goes on to mention that 135, 136, two 160 hp 'folders' (119 and 120) and three of a later class of 100 hp Mono-Gnome 'folders' (811, 814 and 815) took part in the raid.
No other Salmson-powered seaplans are mentioned in the intervening pages. Appendix F (p. 527) provides the following summary data: S.96-103: Tr. S/p, Folder, 100 hp Gnome, 811-818. This I take to mean "Tractor single-propeller ...".
For the Type 74 it has the following entry: S.69-75 Tr. S/p, N/F, 100 hp Gnome, RNAS 74-80.
The plot thickens, however: on p.99 there is a photo of RNAS 816 (no. visible on the fin). The caption reads "816, one of the eight Improved Type 74 seaplanes built at Rochester in 1914; they were basically Type 830, with Mono-Gnomes substituted because of a shortage of Salmsons, and smaller fins." No doubt it was clear to Barnes at the time!
I hope that this throws some light on the matter. There are further details of the Types 74, 135, 136 and 830 (wingspan, length etc.) on pages 99 and 106.
The Type 74 had a wingspan of 57 ft, the 135 52 ft, the 136 54 ft 6 in and the 830 53 ft 11 in. Perhaps they looked similar!

Mostly posting to pass on a nugget of useful knowledge: your added ping didn't work, because - as pointed out to me awhile back (with a link to the manual and everything!) - you need to add a new sig and a new line to an old post if you want to trigger a new notification. - Most people will say that you have to add a new signature if you modify an old post and want to include a ping. It's actually a bit more subtle than that; the diff between the new and old versions has to add a line and contain a new sig. (See mw:Manual:Echo for the gory details.)
