Help request[edit]

Hello! I have a question for you. What happens if I want to create an article that already exists in a sub-menu of another one but I wish to write it from scratch in order to be a part of a new and bigger article? I'd like both the new main/big article and the included smaller ones to be arranged in a uniform way.

I have moved this down, because new additions to talk pages traditionally go at the bottom, so as to keep things in a clear order.
What you want to do is not a problem. As an example to show how it is handled, look at the article Capri. It has a section headed "History" at the head of which is a "Hatnote" pointing the main article History of Capri. See WP:Hatnote for details: there are different types. You make this one by typing {{main|History of Capri}}, which produces .
I would advise you to start by writing your new article and adding the hatnote to the section in the main article. Then it would be worth considering whether some detail could be trimmed out of the main article, but it would probably be as well to discuss that on the article talk page.
One more point: on talk pages like this (but not in articles) it helps keep track of who said what when if you sign your contributions by ending them with a group of four "tilde" characters ~~~~ which the system turns into a "signature" with your username and the time and date, like this: JohnCD (talk) 20:16, 20 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This information was usefull but the problem is that when I do that it redirects to a sub-title of the same article. I wish to create a new and more detailed article that would have the same title. How can I create a new article if it already exists? Where can I write it and give it the appropriate title? One more question: I have the author's permission to copy/paste text from the official website. I had also requested some photos in order to use them in the article which I have and can use. Is it ok? Xristiswiki (talk) 10:52, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Xristiswiki. I take it you're referring to Pairno anasa, which is currently a redirect to Giorgos Perris. To bypass the redirect, use this link to take you to the Pairno anasa redirect page, then remove the text #REDIRECT [[Giorgos Perris]] and continue editing in the usual way.
As far as your copyright inclusions are concerned, there may be two major issues. Firstly, it's not possible for a website owner to release text just for Wikipedia. All Wikipedia content must be free to re-release, modify and sell anywhere on- or off-line, meaning that the text needs to be clearly released under a CC-BY-SA licence (the source website needs to display this release).
Secondly, a subject's website is rarely a good source for text - the content tends to be too promotional to meet Wikipedia's neutrality policy. It might be better to rephrase it in your own words even if it is available for free reuse.
Images are more complicated still where copyright is concerned; you would again need to ensure that they are publicly released under a free licence before they could be used. Assuming that they are, you should upload them to Wikimedia Commons, rather than here. You may also need to file a notice with the volunteer response service to verify that you have permission to use the images. Yunshui  11:48, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What did just happen? Did I delete "George Perris" page?Xristiswiki (talk) 09:47, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No, but you blanked it, and when the author of a page blanks it, that is taken as a request to delete. Don't worry, I have restored it. It has been set to a WP:REDIRECT to the existing article about this person at Giorgos Perris.
When you refer to another article, the best way to do it is with a WP:Wikilink, which you make by writing the name between double square brackets. So writing [[George Perris]] makes George Perris, a link that you can click to get to the article, though as that has been made into a redirect, clicking it now takes you on to Giorgos Perris. JohnCD (talk) 09:56, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You are right, my mistake. Thanks! The question now is why it redirects to "Giorgos Perris". Can't we skip that? Or at least there could be one "George Perris" (not "Giorgos Perris") wikipage whether it means rewriting the "giorgos perris" page in oder to be "right" according to wikipedia policy and changing the title to "george perris" or keeping the existing "george perris" page as it is. Too much? :s Xristiswiki (talk) 10:46, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There should only be one article, and it should be at the most commonly-used name. I see that "George" gets 1,760,000 Ghits and "Giorgos" only 79,800, so I have moved the article to George Perris, leaving Giorgos Perris as a redirect. OK? JohnCD (talk) 10:58, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thanks! Now I can edit "george perris" page according to wikipedia policy :-) Xristiswiki (talk) 11:02, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

re: George Perris page[edit]

George Perris is the correct name, right? I think those banners on the talk page are still useful, because "This article is still of interest to the following WikiProjects". --Makecat 12:10, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

yes, the name is correct. so... it isn't a "bad comment", is it? one more thing, what about the photo notification? can it be removed? i suppose it had been added to the old page (when this one was title "giorgos perris? and the text was waaaaaaay different) but this one has nothing to do with the previous page Xristiswiki (talk) 12:27, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for January 27[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited George Perris, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Select (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi there. I see that you've been trying to create articles on certain albums. Following this guideline should be helpful. Please let me know if you need any help. J04n(talk page) 19:44, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

thank you for your offer but it turns out that I may not need it because wikipedia has decided to delete the "george perris" page.

I've spent hours talking with several administrators about the "George Perris" page and they have been extremely helpfull. However the page is about to be deleted and I don't know what else I should do to prevent this.

Hi - the article has been tagged with as a WP:PROD (proposed deletion) template, which is for uncontested deletions. Therefore if you want to contest it, simply remove the {{Proposed deletion}} template. However, unless the reasons for the PROD are addressed, the article may well be nominated for a full deletion discussion, which cannot be removed. In particular, the artcile needs references from reliable sources, which are independent of the subject (i.e. not the subject's own website). Note that social media sites such as Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, etc., don't count as reliable. I've had a look through Google, and there are some pages I've found from which you may be able to draw information - [1], [2] and [3]. If you can use these as sources, then it should meet WP:GNG and WP:BAND. Good luck! An optimist on the run!   18:17, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hello! Thanks for the help!!! I have a question though. When I first created the page I had lots of articles/references (or sources?) like the ones you suggested but an administrator removen all of them and kept the official page's one... I am a bit confused... There have been articles on the press either announcing a concert or just taking an interview but somehow they have been concidered as promotional stuff?? I am really confused...Xristiswiki (talk) 19:55, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Could anyone read the conversation above as well as the George Perris article and tell me if the sources are ok? I'm still trying to understand the whole thing... I've been talking to several moderators, following each one's instructions every time but I always do something wrong :-( Xristiswiki (talk) 07:36, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I took a look at the discussion as well as the article George Perris and it appears someone has removed the PROD template. I would say the article still has a lot of work. There are various different levels of quality on Wikipedia, but if you're wondering if the article would be saved from deletion, I would say it's not certain at this point. Much of the article is still unsourced, and some of the sources are not WP:RS. The source [4] represents a reliable source, where the artist is the focus of the publcation. [5] represents a bad source because it does not talk about Perris at all. I would suggest reading in depth WP:RS and finding more of them. Mkdwtalk 06:58, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the help. I used reference #5 as evidence of his participation because it says "featuring Mario Frangoulis and George Perris" Xristiswiki (talk) 16:17, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Pairno anasa, a page you created, has not been edited in at least 180 days. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 19:04, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Xristiswiki. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Pairno anasa".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Pairno anasa}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 20:03, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
