Wikipedia and copyright

Control copyright icon Hello Xclusivzik, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your additions to Omawumi have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 21:17, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions —specifically this edit to Omawumi—because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help desk. Thanks. Materialscientist (talk) 13:54, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

/* Indus Valley Civilization */ Why was the Maya mentioned in the sub article about indus valley?

Yes i believe you made a mistake. The mayans are randomly added in multiple different subsections pertaining to other cultures. The example i removed was a random quip about the mayans in the indus valley discussion, not the mayan discssion down below. IT is as if someone just added random sentences at will. I dont know how this works, just that it's wrong. 71.182.130.242 (talk) 15:11, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

Copyright problem icon Your edit to South African Music Awards has been removed in whole or in part, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. All such contributions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, and persistent violators of our copyright policy will be blocked from editing. See Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources for more information. — Diannaa (talk) 16:08, 28 November 2020 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Cornelius SA requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.deezer.com/en/artist/6923207. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. 이상민(1973년 6월 24일 ~ ) this is the original birth date, I copied it from the wikipedia korean page of Lee Sangmin, please leave it like this cause it's the correct date of birth of this artist, he wasn't born on 3rd february. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 179.62.129.54 (talk) 17:30, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for December 11

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Kyle Watson (musician), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Zhu. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:14, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

Ways to improve Cornelius SA

Hello, Xclusivzik,

Thank you for creating Cornelius SA.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Thank you for this new article. Note that many of the sources currently in the article only include brief mentions of this musician, and others are unreliable reprints of press releases from his management. See the guidelines for reliable sources for pointers.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Doomsdayer520}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

The same is true for Gaba Cannal as well. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 17:07, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

Aymos

Hi there! Loving your work on Kamo Mphela and Gaba Cannal etc's pages. I'd appreciate your help in creating and editing one for Aymos-- I've started managing him and the conflict prevents me from doing this myself. Do give me a shout if you're keen and I ca supply some sources.

Iamshiba (talk) 20:40, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

Hello @Iamshiba:, I'm sure someone who doesn't have WP:COIN will eventually create one for him if he's notable. Cheers-Xclusivzik (talk) 16:17, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Kamo Mphela

Multiple sources state that Kamo Mphela was born in Durban. Why do u keep publishing false information stating that she was born in Soweto? if you continue, your actions will be taken as vandalism and i'll report your account to an administrator. And stop removing red links as you did here!, see WP:Red link.

Please see "Use the name of the birthplace at the time of birth, e.g.: Saigon (prior to 1976), Ho Chi Minh City (post 1976)." I am going to revert your edits. BTbrew (talk) 22:05, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

Turntable Charts

Hey! Xclusivzik, I noticed that you're active in the music-related space and want to ask your opinion on something. I asked a question here but didn't get a response. I just want to know if you think the Turntable charts can be regarded as an official Chart for Nigeria. This source describes the metrics used as; with a service called Radio Monitor, TurnTable Charts began receiving TV and radio airplay data from within Nigeria. This is then combined with data from Apple Music’s weekly charts and streams on services like Audiomack, Boomplay, and YouTube. Thank you. Princess of Ara(talk) 09:30, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Interesting... @Princess of Ara: they seem to be relatively new and somewhat similar to EMA and RiSA. I don’t see why they shouldn’t be regarded as an official chart for Nigeria. However I’m keen on hearing the options of other editors as well, specifically ones from the Nigeria Wikiproject. Xclusivzik (talk) 14:30, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for your input. Responses from there are unlikely. The tp is largely inactive. Princess of Ara(talk) 18:16, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
